Any news on Martin Garcia?

I did some digging a few weeks ago, and I read somewhere he was having visa troubles. I hate to come here for EVERYTHING, but you guys know so much more than I do.
I cannot believe, [well considering this idiotic government I guess I can believe,] Here is someone who is gainfully employed, not a security risk, just trying to make a living, is this true about the visa?

Why is GG not riding much for Baffert? Are they still grumpy?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Did you look at the TVG community forums? That’s where I 1st found out about MG’s visa trouble, but haven’t been back there in a few weeks.

I saw that GG gave ASSmussen his 1st SA win yesterday. Can’t see that relationship lasting long though.

WTF?

Sometimes I think I must live in an alternate universe. I just tried to check in with the community, which I think I was a member of but visited infrequently. I was greeted with YOU ARE BANNED! For using this account to to evade an existing ban. ??? :o
I haven’t the slightest clue what they are talking about! I cannot even get into the chat rooms!
Whats this about GG and Assmussen? He has ridden for him back east. [I know so little…]:frowning:

Wow, what a way to start the new year . Sorry about your “banishment”! Maybe I’ll wait a while longer before I go back there. 2010 was bad enough.

Asmussen is famous for “firing” jocks. Since Gomez seems to be as arrogant as Steve, I just don’t see those two getting along.

Thank you

I heard from them that it is my idiot browser. Glad I am shifting, the old browser seems to be going down in flames these days
yes, some days it sucks to be me:eek:

You’d think he could get a very, very good immigration lawyer for the coin he took in for 2010 and what important mounts he loses by the day.

Martin Garcia racked up $10,151,584 in purse monies so if you take 10% of that it’s a $1M+ and while he kicks a percentage back to his valet and agent it still would be in the high six-figures.

In the mean time it looks like Baffert has made Rafael Bejarano his No. 1 jockey with Martin Garcia back in Mexico. Rafael has now gotten the mounts on two of Bafferts promising Derby-maybe colts: The Factor and Uncle Sam. As well as another 3rd old and maybe Derby prospect for Baffert who is developing nicely: Awesome Patriot.

Martin ought to use my Immigration lawyer. She is the best!!!
BUT the race track tends to use Margret Wilson who will screw anyone and everyone over. I was schooled by her before going to a REAL lawyer!

What makes you guys think that he doesn’t already have the best immigration lawyer on the case?
Dealing with the USCIS/DoJ isn’t as simple as a high powered lawyer waving a wand and making it go away. They have rules you play by and they move at their own pace.

Garcia should head to Dubai while he’s waiting for this to work it’s way through. Stay fit and make some cash. Prolonged absences aren’t good for jocks.

Because he’s not in the country.
Believe me I am VERY familiar with USCIS and the thorough and tedious process involved. Though interestingly Fed Ex takes more info than INS to allow you to fly with a horse… I digress.
A good lawyer would have advised him bit to leave the country until his papers are in order. AND a great lawyer would have a work permit for him already.
It really is about who one employs and how efficient they are. A well connected Immigration lawyer is well worth the HUGE retainer they require. This much I am well schooled in.
I have paid up the ass to be in this country. And she’s been worth it!

I guarantee there is no one more frustrated in this equation than Martin.

cough, cough…the popular phrase is “out the a**”, but I’m glad you’re happy here:yes:.

Out…up… whatever. I’ve paid it.
He needs my lawyer. Dora Komura… she rocks it!
Pasadena is where she is located and she is amazing!!

He’s back Thursday although sadly for Martin you have to wonder: will Bob Baffert really want to change [back] anything? I think it will be damn hard for him to get those plum mounts he once had again.

In case anyone hasn’t been watching Santa Anita racing thus far in this meet - Baffert is utterly crushing the trainers standings. I haven’t seen anything like it at a major track in years.

Equibase as of 1-24-2011: Bob Baffert

National rank (trainers): 1st of 3,209
2011 Record: 33 starters 15-6-4 $839,944
Win percentage: 45%
Win-Place-Show percentage: 76%
(Only Tony Dutrow is putting up similar percentages, but half the # of starters)

DRF 1-25-11 “Garcia settles paperwork, returns at Santa Anita”

Garcia rides El Martillo in the seventh race on Thursday. He has one mount on Friday, Dixie Commander in the sixth race.

Garcia completed the necessary immigration paperwork on Friday in Tijuana, Mexico, and traveled to Los Angeles area later that day. He was at Hollywood Park on Saturday to exercise horses and at Santa Anita on Sunday morning.

Garcia has not ridden since Nov. 7 at Hollywood Park. He left for Mexico a few days later, hoping to reapply for a license and make a quick return to California.

Garcia rides El Martillo for Baffert on Thursday, but has lost mounts in that stable to jockeys Rafael Bejarano and Mike Smith in recent months. He does not have any mounts in the three Sunshine Millions Stakes on Saturday.

As you can see here the jockey colony in Santa Anita has plenty of top ranked jocks and mounts have been thin. He’s not going to be snatching mounts from say PVal or Joel Rosario.

May as well toss this here …

Looks like the Garcia-Baffert team is over (May 14, 2012)

Drill won Saturday’s Laz Barrera Stakes while ridden by jockey Martin Garcia, who was aboard three winners for Baffert on Saturday at Hollywood Park. But it appears it will be the last time they team together in the immediate future.

Baffert told the Paulick Report website on Sunday that he no longer intends to ride Garcia because the rider did not appear for morning workouts last week and that Garcia said he wants to take mounts for other stables.

Garcia has ridden nine stakes winners for Baffert this year, including Eden’s Moon in the Grade 1 Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita in March.
