Any one seen this...the new fox hunting in England

Mostly a lurker on this forum…but came across this today. Horrific! And then the article infers traditional foxhunters are involved since the ban…

I’d be interested to see but I can’t see what you’re referring to…

Came across what??

Oops…here’s the link.

Very sad… That’s not sport, it’s akin to dog fighting in my mind.
I was sad to see foxhunting banned in England - It was such a rich part of their heritage.

I grew up in a foxhunt and we rarely had kills - we usually tried to prevent them in fact, because we needed the foxes for sport. The kills that I can remember either involved VERY sick and parasite ridden foxes and one unfortunate incident where the master’s horse hit a hole and the hounds ran amok while he was on the ground…

Other than the lower picture, there is nothing in the article to show that this is being done by true foxhunters. Sounds more like dogfighting groups to me, like the ones that use stray cats and small dogs in the cities. Freaky, yes… and I don’t like that it’s happening, but the article lacked any real information to back up the accusations against fox hunters.

ETA: And I would think that this type of killing would be as offensive to fox hunters as anyone else, which makes the accusation even worse. Every Fox Hunter I have ever met has been a true sportsman, who were respectful of the tradition of the sport. These are bloodthirsty sickos.

Yeah, I love how the text of the article says

Residents say gang members travel to the city in white vans and unleash bloodthirsty dogs which hunt down and tear to pieces the foxes. . …

But then shows a picture of a traditional mounted fox hunt with the sub-heading

there are reports that groups have switched their attention to killing urban foxes

What a canary-colored rag the Daily Mail is.

Anyway, I call bullshite on the whole story.

But thanks for sharing the article, BasqueMom. I won’t suffer from low blood pressure the rest of the day.

Sorry about the blood pressure…mine went up when I read that traditional fox hunters
would be involved in this “urban” fox hunting.

Looks like tabloid garbage to me…

Here are some photos from the Exmoor Foxhounds recently - rather a different story

They’re not.

It’s just yellow journalism. Must have been a slow news day. The only thing missing from that article is an Elvis sighting.

Should’ve known it would be in the Daily Wail. :dead:

Just the Daily Mail taking yet another shot at what they regard as the “upper classes”.

Think National Enquirer.

Ha! Should’ve guessed it’d be the Daily Mail…

There probably is some truth in the story to be fair but it absolutely won’t be anything to do with ‘organised’ hunts. Even the Mail manages to ‘sort of’ admit this by saying that the dogs are

‘Lurchers, Staffordshire Bull terriers and Jack Russells are said to have been seen sprinting down their road chasing foxes.’

Ummm, it’d be a funny ol’ hunt that had Staffordshire Bull Terriers running alongside hounds!

It is a shame that the caption under the foxhunters is clearly inaccurate and misleading - but that’s the Daily Mail for you.

It is sad that this can be going on here (but it is in Merseyside - crime capital of the UK), but if there is truth to it, I hope and think it probably is, restricted to this one area.

Please don’t take everything the Daily Mail says at face value!!
