Any opinions on Shu Fu

Posted in Sport Horse Breeding and no responses, so thought I’d see if any dressage riders have had any experience with Shu Fu’s offspring or heard anything good or bad about him as a sire.

As far as I have heard he is a very nice stallion…. And the breeding is very in in the moment…

Thanks, I was looking to hear what the European word of mouth was about him. I’ve watched all the youtube video I could find and like what I see. Still curious about his offspring, young as they maybe, if he passes on his temperament and improves conformation. Looked at some on-line auction sites and no Shu Fu foals for sale. Do you know where I might look?

Thank-you

A friend of mine has a Shu Fu foal for sale. He is Shu Fu x Rotspon and very nice - listed as a stallion prospect. I was interested but I need a foal like I need a hole in the head! If you’re on FB check him out on Equi International. Edited to add - he is located in Germany.

Thanks for the info. He’s lovely. At the moment, I’m in the info gathering stage. Never have imported from Europe, as I have usually imported from USA.

Anyone know about the origin of the name? I’m only familiar with this term in Japanese where it means “housewife”, which is funny for a stallion. So that’s clearly not the origin. I wonder where it’s from and what it means.

His sire’s name is Sezuan, which I’m guessing is some kind of westernization of Sichuan (a province of China, frequently spelled Szechuan in the USA). My guess would be Mandarin or Cantonese, but it’s difficult to know what it’s supposed to mean without the proper tone markers.

Using pinyin-to-character input for Mandarin, it could mean “comfortable”, “bondage”, “uncle” or “milf” (lmao) and probably several other meanings. And that is, of course, assuming they used the correct pinyin spelling.

I tried the pinyin input, too, with similar results and couldn’t make sense of it. I’m going to keep thinking of him as “housewife”!

Maybe I am wrong but I think that is over interpreting it…. it looks interesting and nowadays with that many stallions, you need to pick a name which people will remember…

For example I have a filly and the fathers name is Sezuan’s Donnerhall. already I am going crazy about a good name :sleepy::sleepy:.

it’s not easy…… I was considering Shu Fu as well, but now this stallion has the name…. in the moment My fav would be Sammy Jo

There is a theater play by Berthold Brecht ‘Der gute Mensch von Sezuan’ and one character is Shu Fu.

What is the dam’s name?

Shu Fu is an anglicised pronunciation of Xu Fu or Hsu Fu. Xu Fu was a Chinese alchemist who was sent by the first Chinese emperor Qin to find the elixir for eternal life.

Just wondering if anyone has had any positive pregnancy tests to Shu Fu this season in Australia?
