Any Pixio or Pixem users out there?

I’m interested in getting a pixem, does anyone have one and can provide their experience with it?

I have a pixio. In the metal walled indoor you have to take care where you place the beacons else it tracks like its drunk. Otherwise, it is totally great!

@endlessclimb Thanks! How difficult is it to set up? Like how much time do you spend setting it up when you use it?

im trying to convince my barn that we all need to go in on one and a couple extra wrist trackers and people are wondering about the work involved.

I found a good blog write up on how one sets a Pixio up. It is very detailed and has pictures as well. I was trying to decide if I wanted to go the Pixio route or go the Soloshot route. I’m not sold either way (although will 100% go Soloshot if they end up getting the indoor arena option soon - not holding my breath though!).

I’d say it takes me between 5 and 10 minutes. The first time is a little confusing, but after that it goes really fast.

@rockonxox thanks for sending that link! That’s really helpful! I am thinking Pixem because we need indoor and outdoor capability and we have very poor cell service at the barn so I’m afraid gps signal will also be bad.

I agree 5-10 min, though it was confusing for me the first several times. And because I don’t use it very often, I still have those “beacon 2 to the left of 1? Or right?” moments so I finally printed that page of the manual and I keep it in the bag with the robot/beacons.

Ha! I made a little shortened instruction card and laminated it.

I have a Pixem. I bought one on pre-order because of the discount and it was much cheaper than the Pixio and Camera. I typically ride indoors, so the Solo Shot was out. Initially it was IMPOSSIBLE to connect my phone (Galaxy S8) to the app. Had to ship it back to France (not fun), then wait weeks for them to tell me it was fine and ship it back out. Got it back and it STILL didn’t connect. They went through a couple app updates and eventually I was able to connect. It still takes me 5-15 minutes to connect each time. Also, they still have not resolved that it is not Auto-Zooming.

Its quite difficult to get customer service with the time difference. Usually only 1 email a day - which can be extremely frustrating.

HOWEVER – Even without all the features yet, I love it. Its super helpful for reviewing your rides/lessons. I do think that if I had to do it again I’d just fork over the extra money for the Pixio and Camera. Seems to be a much easier and more reliable connection. And I didn’t think about the fact that the phone I like to have on me for emergencies is now on a tripod.

Thanks @AGR ! The marketing materials seem to say that the Pixem is auto-zooming, is that only for the Pixio and not Pixem? I was really thinking the Pixem because it will be for a bunch of people at the barn and I didn’t want the additional hassle of transferring videos for other people. If they have their phone on the tripod, they should have the video. But if it doesn’t auto-zoom that’s a big negative.

@thescienceoflisa It is SUPPOSED to auto zoom - but mine has yet to do that. I’m still working with the customer service/tech support team on this. But since it’s been so cold I haven’t used mine lately.

If it makes you feel any better, my experience with the Pixio sounds very similar to yours with the Pixem (minus having to ship it back, but definitely the 1 email a day support cycles and having things not work that should).

The trainer at my barn has a Pixio and will video lessons and training rides. It is a fantastic resource. She did have a lot of trouble with it originally, but after a lot of emails and a software update, it has been pretty reliable the last few months.

The thing I would worry about in a group setting is that the tripod/beacons/etc do have to be charged regularly. It would be annoying to go out planning to video your ride and find out that the last person to use it hadn’t recharged everything.

Thanks @AGR, @bip and @Gardenhorse! I’m definitely worried about the charging, however I’m going to have faith that if I outline things very clearly in a guide (including steps to charge the parts) that we all can follow them (fingers crossed!).
