I am just curious if there are any registration options for an Appaloosa x Belgian cross mare?
Since there have been no replies to your post, I am guessing most folks feel the same way I do about registration options for such a cross (assuming you are talking about Belgian draft instead of Belgian Warmblood).
So my short answer is “not with any of the Euro based warmblood registries”, or with their NA offshoots.
I don’t know if Appaloosa Sport Horse is an option, but then, I wouldn’t expect this cross to produce a true sport horse type. While I have seen some pretty sporty Appaloosas through the years, I am not sure I have ever seen a sporty Belgian draft horse.
Have you looked into AWS? Don’t they take “non-traditional” breeds and cross-breds into their books?
And I will also ask - are you considering doing this type of cross? And if so, why?
And if you are talking about a BWP mare, you can get a COP from BWP.
I’m not sure about the Appaloosa Sport Horse registry - From what I can tell it just appears to be a half-appaloosa book.
Yes, talking Belgian draft x Appaloosa. Not breeding for it, horse that my friend has that we have been going back and forth on me buying.
We got turned down by the Sugarbush Draft association because they we missed their open registration deadline by a month. She fits their breed standard, and looks a lot nicer than half the horses they accepted, but oh well. Just wondering what other options there are out there. We don’t have a pedigree on her, just looking more for something that could create a paper trail on her.
I am pretty sure AWS will REGISTER anything that is not 100% draft or hot blood (Arab or tb). That makes the horse eligible for their breed awards. I would not be hoping for breeding approval, though.

I don’t think there are any plans to breed her. She’s a good looking mare IMO, and very sweet/trainable, but I could easily get a replica by adopting a PMU or nurse mare foal.
You can enroll with PHR to be eligible for year end awards, I think.
What does registration matter if you are not going to breed?
What is PHR?
Being registered seems to open up more show opportunities, year end awards, and a paper trail should something happen.
AWS may register her, as long as she meets performance criteria - either a high enough inspection score, or performance (at shows) score. Looking at the picture, I doubt she’d get breeding approval score - she’s pretty drafty, and they have a higher % requirement for breeding, but at least you’d have papers if she met the minimum inspection score (or show scores).
PHR is the other option, as already mentioned.
Isn’t there a Draft cross registry - I kind of remember seeing it
in the USDF list of participating breeds:
For some reason I was under the impression that AWR and AWS didn’t register horses showing appaloosa characstics, so I didn’t even consider either. I will have to look into them both some more.
