Any special ways that you’ve used your horse’s ashes?

Hi friends,
My heart horse has gone over the rainbow bridge. I am heartbroken. His ashes arrived today - I’m happy to have him home, and I’d like to honor him in ways that I can.

Please share what you’ve done, or heard of. I’m looking forward to hearing the amazing ways in which you have honored or remembered your loyal friends.

TY

No personal experience, but I’ve seen pottery made using Raku technique that incorporates hair.
I’d assume ash could also be used for ceramics.

I will look into this, thank you.

There are multiple companies that can make a diamond from the ash (only a small portion of it) but they aren’t cheap

Similar to this - not ashes but I have a portion of my horse’s tail hair in a pendant on a necklace I wear daily. I had it custom made (I believe it’s a lab grown Moissanite, I don’t entirely remember) - selecting stone size/ shape/ color/ type and placement/ size/ color/ type of the other stones as well. The shop I worked with on Etsy was fabulous and I am so thankful everyday to have a piece of her with me, everywhere I go. Of course now I can’t find the shop to share. It wasn’t cheap at around $800 but not as expensive as I would have originally expected.

I choose the shape because she had a star that was diamondy in shape (which then got more blob like as she greyed out) and the color of the main stone was to represent her coat color with the accent stones also representing her coat color (steel/ dapple grey). I love that it is subtle - no one knows it’s a memorial piece unless they ask/ I tell them and most of the time others can’t see the tail hair unless I hold it up and point it out.

I love this idea. Did you sprinkle in a handful in spring?

This is so beautiful - what a lovely way to remember your mare. I’ve found many people on Etsy now, thank you for the idea.

Have you had this done? I’m curious about the quality because, as you said, it is not cheap!

I put maybe 1/3c in the bottom of each hole. I haven’t yet used any to top-dress but maybe I should :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

We have 4 kitties buried under a Japanese maple, and some peonies

I haven’t, but I always thought it was a cool idea. I’m sure there are reviews out there for the various options.

I had the ashes from my first dog Kip for over a decade and I finally found something worth of him. I found Spirit Pieces on Etsy and had him transformed into this earlier this year.

Then when Riley passed way in June, I had this one made from him:

My dogs are all assigned a color when they turn a year old and recieve a leather padded collar from Tack Shack. That is the color of their leashes, collars, any jackets or sweaters that they need as they age.

Kip was black and his color was purple. Riley was a boxer cross and his color was blue. I have the cremations of my cats; SuggleUpWithGus and Tristan which I think I am going to do both an iridecent color along with their coat color to do as well as one more dog Oli, who was black and his color was teal.
Buma’s color is yellow to go with her red Ridgeback coat and Silly Lilly is black and her color will be lavender/lilac (picked out by my DH)

I get them done one at a time, and get a 10% off coupon for the next. Two a year is all my heart can handle. I don’t like handling the cremains.

They are heavy. Kip’s sits in a plant and I have Riley’s in a wooden plant pot cradle. They say you can hang them, but I don’t know if I would trust it.

They do a bunch of different shapes/sizes and paperweights too.

You are very welcome. It’s an artist collective and I have and the same artist in Texas do my two boys. I think his name is Austin. I would assume that Spirit Pieces selects the artist to do the work based on what you object you select and match it to their expertise.

Let us know if you ever get one. I would love to see it.
