Any tips to soften jaw?

As I said before, this is my first time that I’m TRYING to train half steps to my horse, so compare to H. Gurney or A. Kottas who both trained 100+ horses to GP = I really know nothing about that subject and I don’t claim to know it either  + also there is a big chance that I’ll fail in training p&p … just like many others do!

I’m sure if either of them were asked in more detail, they would get into more detail about different kinds of horses, etc, choice of type of prep, refining the work, different approaches.

sawing of the hands or fussing hands is not the same as sponging or opening and closing the hands

Just a note on psychology here, and on rewards…

In humans and other animals, giving a reward for something they are already willing to do actually decreases their willingness to do it over time. (This is different than trying to change a behavior). I would stick with the verbal rewards, and limit the food to a sometimes-treat once the horse has understood the exercise. I guess that seems obvious, but it’s an easy track to get stuck in without noticing(think about dogs who will only sit if they think you have something tasty for them…).
