Any way to filter which sections show up in a "New Topics" search?

I often keep up with the site using the “New Topics” button up top, because I’m interested in a bunch of different things and it’s an easy way to stay on top of them. Lately though this has been overwhelmed by the Off Topic section, and I’d like to stick with the equine content. Is there a way to do this? (I could have sworn there used to be a way to do it but I can’t find it!)

Note that this isn’t a “please get rid of Off Topic” request, I don’t even think Current Events is near as bad as it’s been in past. It is, however, overwhelming everything else, at least for me. (As I write this the “New Topics” button gives me 11/15 from Off Topic.)

Known issue, on the list for the devs. Here’s what mod 1 posted about that:

I’m glad a fix is on the way! I noticed that when I click on the shortcut on my phone (automatically saved by Chrome) I only get the equine-related results so I copy/pasted the link on my computer and it did filter out Current Events and Off Topic. I don’t know if it will work for you, but OP perhaps you’d like to try copy/pasting the below and bookmarking it if it works:

”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹https://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/search?searchJSON={"date":{"from":"lastDay"},"exclude":[20,49,61,58],"view":"topic","sort":{"lastcontent":"desc"},"exclude_type":["vBForum_PrivateMessage","vBForum_VisitorMessage"]}&btnSubmit=

This is me as well.

I’ve reiterated to the developers that getting this search query returned to its previous state of excluding OT threads is a top priority.

Thank you! I am on this forum for horse chat. Interestingly the current interface really shows up how little horse chat there is these days compared to off topic and current affairs.

It’s not just post Covid and BLM. I’ve noticed declining traffic on the horse forums for at least the past year, possibly longer.

But the current interface shows that there’s been a real switch in traffic.

more than 30% of Active Members have left …dropped down to 3400 from 4750… and appears to be dropping at about sixty per day
(well make that Active Members: 3,389 as of 8pm June 25)

then norm for members logged on is less than 300 often less than 200

Current Events will be the death of the forum unless it is returned to special times such as holiday weekends

…but how much of that is summer (people are outside more, doing more with their horses) and states reopening (people aren’t at home, bored, as much.)

These numbers don’t mean diddly without historical values. Maybe this is a totally normal pattern for this time of year.

Not even accounting for site navigating problems, so many of them.
Right now, I can read and post for a bit, then next time I change pages, they won’t change, am stuck waiting.
Those glitches makes for less participation also.

well I watch Numbers as I was in marketing for decades … historically the number of active member was around 5,000 and maintained that level readership until about fourteen months ago… since that there has been an increasing rate of loss of active members… the recent collapse of the board has just accelerated the loss …this morning active members are 3307… the 30 day marker of the reactivation of the board will be the telling number.

Until then the board continues to loose about 50 active member per day …so 2500 is really a possibility…that would be a 50% loss

My guess is many of the former active members might still be reading the board but no long post due to seeing the same question asked repeatedly or just have gotten tired of being confronted by a few domineering posters

The management of the board appears to agree that Current Events is a needed topic (I disagree) but they own the board and what they want they will get…many are voting with their feet and leaving

apparently there is a way to keep Current Events from showing up as if you go the CoTH main page, scroll down to see the TRENDING IN FORUMS there is no Current Events posts are noted
