anybody trash their hand when their wrist broke? tfcc tears anybody?

docs here just put me in a cast for the wrist since it was pretty obvious.

cast is now off, but the hand is a disaster! ring finger especially. moving it in the cast was OK - now flexion is pretty damned painful, that part of the hand looks wierd, and it is swollen.

also have crunchies near the base of the pinky when i try to turn the hand.f

going for an mri, but am unsure what they can do this far out from the initial injury…? or what i’m looking at if they decide to just splint?

Wrist has many little bones, need more information to make sense of what your injury was.

Wrists are very complicated and here, you are sent to a wrist specialist when you have a wrist injury.
They can do wonderful things today, so keep insisting they get you the best wrist man on this.

I broke my hand, not my wrist, but yeah, when it finally came out of the (multiple) cast 4.5 months later, it was a complete mess. Stiff, weak, painful, reduced range of motion. I was told by the dr to use the dog snot out of it and to not baby it. Now, three or four years later, it’s 95%.

PT
PT
PT

do thy PT young padawan.

some of the pt makes the hand swell - esp flexing it and flexing middle and ring fingers…

after getting a chiro to work the inflammation and swelling down, it appears that maybe a flexor tendon in the ring finger (or something similar) got whacked.

lowest knuckle in that finger sort of sticks out too far in front and doesn’t stay up all the way in back…and it does a bizarre ‘twang’ on the front of the hand. lower down on the back is very tender and swells easily. i could do the same exercises in the cast w/o pain, so suspect that the cast supported it.

right now i have the ring finger splinted and buddy taped, and that seems to be keeping most of the swelling down.

still trying to get mri scheduled.

yep, i’d get swollen after the PT too; in fact, first couple times i rode after i broke mine, the wrist and part of the hand swelled up. elevate and ice. good luck!

went to see a different doc. he called it ‘cast disease’…tendonitis and pain in lots of places from immobilization and swelling in the cast.

got a scrip for ot and told to NOT do the exercise where you put the back of your hand on a table and then put weight on it.

I broke big bone in my wrist. When the cast came off there is a lot of pain. Had my cast off for three years. Pain is mostly gone (weather makes it ache at times) but I didn’t baby it. Barn work/dressage riding is great therapy for the wrist and fingers.
