They are fabulous! I have several of their saddles and have had them fitted remotely from tracings.
Their customer service is top-notch and they do a massive demo sale every March that is definitely worth going to if you’re local.
PM me if you have specific questions…
I had a super customer service experience too and they didn’t even make any money off me! I sent them wither tracings and they told me which saddles they thought would be a good fit. I ended up buying a used SW saddle from @@fordtraktor and I love it. My saddle fitter has told me they’re always good to work with too.
I had a terrific experience with them as well. I live about an hour north on I-91, so I went with my wither tracings in hand. First of all, the store is an experience in itself. Basically wall to ceiling saddles and other leather goods in a very large building. The smell is amazing.
I talked to the person who was managing the store (I’m not remembering her name right now), and she pulled some saddles down and had me sit in a few different ones and talked about what I wanted.
Then she adjusted the trees (slightly) on three saddles according to the wither tracings I had brought and sent me home with them to try for a couple of weeks or more. Really.
I liked one of them, but then also wanted to try two other different ones, so I went back with two of the saddles and picked up two more and kept them for another week to ride in. I decided that the one that she had originally picked out for me was in fact the one that worked the best, and so I took the three saddles back. We finalized the sale, and she kept the saddle I’d bought for a few days to tweak the fit, using photos I’d taken of my horse with the saddle on, and of the sweat marks left by the saddle, and sent the final saddle back to me.
That was a couple of years ago, and I’ve been very pleased with the saddle.
I’d absolutely use them again.
I bought a saddle from them about 2 years ago. They were great to work with and did a solid job fitting remotely (I’m in SD and tbh I didn’t do the greatest job with the back tracings, but it worked out well). The saddle I had was the Mystic dressage and it’s a nice, well made saddle. I only sold it because I need a bit more support now that my horse is schooling 2nd/3rd level and I found a fantastic deal on a Laser that fits my odd proportions. I would certainly buy from them again, though!
As a saddle fitter, I love going to a fitting and being presented with a Smith Worthington saddle. They are well designed, well made, and a pleasure to work on. If I were to add another brand to my business, Smith Worthington would probably be it.
Thank you all for your replies! Do you need an appointment to visit the factory? That’s definitely on the list. I might even load my horse up and take him with me! lol
I called before I went, but I didn’t actually need an appointment.
I don’t think I’d try to trailer a horse there to try the saddles on. The building really is in the middle of Hartford, and although it has a big parking lot, it’s paved and there is literally no green space in the immediate area (unless you count the hospital grounds that are about a block away!).
