Anyone else eyeing RRP’21?

A long way off, I know, but applications for 2021 open soon and I always need something to put my eye on to get me through impending winter!

I sold my gelding and had planned on focusing on my young mare only through the winter and maybe picking up a second one in the spring again but I came across one that I had to have, so here we are. Just waiting for him to catch a ride down here

Not my first OTTB by far but I’ve never done the makeover before and this one is eligible so I am thinking of putting in an application.

I know a few others by the same stallion who are all sweet hunters so I’m thinking that might be the way this one will go, but we’ll see as he gets going. I’m not picky about the discipline or if we even make it there, I just think it is nice to have something to look to as a tentative goal. Originally that was supposed to be the new young jumper championships with my mare but with not making it to many shows this year I don’t think that’s realistic and I think we will have less lofty goals for 2021. Maybe we’ll go for it in 2022

Pic of the handsome new addition, just for fun. I gave him his own account since my main account is already spammed with my mare and my dog and I decided to take pity on my non-horsey friends and family members.

Anyone else thinking about doing it next year, either with a horse they have or one they hope to get?

I’m thinking about it. I was given a qualified 3yo filly who I’ve known since she was a weanling. She’s got the chillest personality and I think she’d do great at it.

Not sure which discipline I would enter. I think she would make a cute hunter, but that isn’t really my thing. Guess I better apply and get accepted first. lol

Not me, but I’ll have to follow your stories if you go for it.

@weixiao he is lovely! Pretty well built, and doesn’t have the looks of a baby. Is he 5 or older?

@Jenerationx
He is 8! He ran 20 times and earned just shy of $140 and was Graded Stakes Placed. I’ve had a couple that were a bit older coming off of the track and they have all been fabulous. He retired at the end of 2019 but has just been hanging out since. The owner apparently has a bunch and wasn’t in a hurry to rehome any of them. Vetting looked really good and hopefully he’ll be pleased to have a job again!

Do it. I did it last year with a friend’s horse and it was a blast. It’s a really fun show, but more importantly, you get to take your horse on a really great journey to prepare for it. Not to mention that RRP people are just the best, most positive group that you will ever meet. Seriously, talk about cheerleaders. It’s a great community. I won’t be showing there in 2021, but a bunch of my friends will be, so I am thinking of going to watch and support them.

When you apply you have to state your discipline, but that does not mean you have to show in it. I do HJ, but ended up doing hunters and dressage. I didn’t have to do hunters, but I wanted to. I loved getting to show dressage too, that was new for me and I had a blast.

I’m planning on attending! I was accepted for the 2020 Makeover, but my horse ended up needing time off, so I withdrew. When the Makeover was cancelled, I was able to re-enter for next year. Yay! I’m looking forward to starting my boy here soon. He’s still having shoeing issues, though. Sigh.

I did the 2019 RRP and really enjoyed the process. As a working adult ammie bringing along a young horse myself (minimal pro rides) that I didn’t intend to sell, there was no pressure to try to place so it was just a nice goal for us to start our partnership.

I wrote monthly for Horse Nation documenting my year leading up to it which was really fun too.

That’s how I feel. I am an adult amateur, not wanting to sell, so just a journey with my boy. Hopefully soon he’ll be able to keep shoes on so I can actually start training!

I hope to do it! I was given a 5 year old stakes winning Orb gelding in March after he bowed at the track. We’re doing tack walking now, and will likely have a pretty slow winter getting both of us in shape. I would prefer to do jumpers but may do dressage.

Why is there only one pic in this entire thread?

Oh, we can’t have that! Here are a few pics of my boy as a baby/yearling/two year old…https://paradoxfarm.blog/2020/03/26/wet-weather-and-sore-feet/

Then a few from right off the track…https://paradoxfarm.blog/2020/02/10/off-to-kentucky-to-look-at-a-horse/

He is by Bernardini out of Dream Rush.

I don’t suppose it really matters, but your boy’s yearling and 2 yo pics are mislabeled. It took me a second to figure out what was going on

He’s nice.

Oops!!

I’m not sure if that worked. Lol

They’re all lovely! I’m horseless and love living vicariously watching others progress.

Wow! Lovely bunch everyone has!

I’m thrilled with my boy so far. He has really been a champ. Just doing some ground work and grooming (ish… grooming isn’t his favorite thing, so finding the parts of grooming he likes and focusing on that- mostly he just wants scratches and to get to pick up my brushes and throw them around). He is missing a front shoe and while he is dead sound on it right now, he is super over due for the farrier so not doing much until the farrier comes out on Wednesday. He also desperately needs his teeth done so hopefully we can get that taken care of this week and I’m hoping for a first ride this weekend when my boyfriend can come out and be my emergency ground person, just in case.

RRP applications went live today so I guess I need to get all my stuff together and get that in! It feels scary to “enter” something 11 months away… horses and long term plans like that are usually not compatible, in my experience! Telling myself that $300 goes to a good cause either way though.

Bumping this back up because I think I’m gonna pull the trigger and buy a little RRP horse. I need a goal for this year that matches my budget and this seems like a great one. :cowboy_hat_face: Anyone want to help me shop? (Dead serious!) Can’t wait to read updates and follow everyone’s progress.
