Anyone else having issues with Smartpak?

In re: tax, a number of states very recently passed laws around the collecting of sales tax for online purchases.

Yes! You can not really blame SmartPak for having to collect sales tax.

I did order 2 small items from SmartPak a few days ago and was surprised when I had no free shipping option except for when it ships with my next autoship. That was different! Nothing urgently needed so they can ship free with the SPs but I had expected to not have to do that. I honestly don’t get extras from them anymore. I was going to order a mid-size HayGain from them on the next sale but it looks like they are not going to be carrying them anymore (no mid-size option anymore). Riding Warehouse has them so I guess I’ll get it from there.

Do they not have their barn saver shipping anymore?

Huh. I like the barn saver shipping. Is it gone?

That I don’t know - no one else at my barn uses SPs currently and I’ve never used it even when they did.

ETA: It still shows barn saver on the shipping info page so I guess they do! I thought it was for more than one person at a barn using them - oops.

The sales tax is now charged due to the Supreme Court decision in South Dakota vs Wayfair. No online retailers have a say in this. This is not Smart Pak, nor Amazon, nor anyone else’s fault. You should have been paying this on your taxes when you filed every year, but most people did not. Now it is up to the retailer to collect and not rely on the consumer to report.

Plenty of legitimate complaints but the fact that SP is properly assessing tax isn’t one of them.

Ah, good to know. I wasn’t aware of the new law. Even still, the clippers were still cheaper even without the tax vs no tax, and they actually showed up when they were supposed to, so I still have no incentive to order from SP

It was not gone when I ordered Monday. I had it as a free shipping option.

Just ordered (2) 3 lb bags of Smart cookies this morning.
Charged tax, fine I expected that.
Got free shipping, expected that also since I’ve always gotten free shipping since I receive monthly SmartPaks. And the free shipping meant free shipping within a few days, not with my next SmartPak order.
My USEF discount was applied to the order.
And at checkout there was an automated message which informed me my order was eligible for a 15% discount, just use Promo code April15.
I figured since it is May 1st I missed out on the April discount. Nope, it applied.

It’s unfortunate some people are having less than desirable experiences, but honestly I’ve had no issues. Perhaps it’s the region of the country and which distribution center orders are ahipped?

I have had 2 recent orders where this happened. Same as you, it was nothing I urgently needed so I opted to have them shipped with my SPs that were shipping the next week. But then they came in separate boxes on 2 different days, so it’s not like SP saved shipping costs by putting them in the same box. That was frustrating to see.

The issue seems to have something to do with brands. I haven’t had any issues with Smartpak brand stuff - but I have had issues getting other brands to add to my cart, apply discounts, and ship free. Every time the person on chat has gotten it sorted out, but it is weird.

Warehouse issues are still a nightmare, in my recent experience. I’ve had several orders canceled and refunded recently due to their website not matching up with actual inventory, including a helmet that a rep specifically told me was in stock.

Smartpak may have finally lost my business. I tried to place a $50 order today. Neither the promised free shipping from Smartperks or the USEF discount would apply. I was told by customer service that the items I ordered weren’t worth shipping for free and that I couldn’t use the USEF discount during the Blankets19 sale.

If $50 isn’t worth free shipping I believe I could have spent another $25 and qualified for free shipping without Smartperks. Doesn’t sound like much of a perk to me.

Apparently Smartperks free shipping no longer applies to everything (and you don’t know which items those would be). And I wasn’t trying to use the Blankets19 promo code so I don’t see what that has to do with my USEF discount.

Before I could semi-justify it as I wasn’t paying sales tax. Now I pay sales tax (I’m aware of the North Dakota v Wayfair and that it’s not Smartpak’s choice to charge tax now) AND shipping AND I don’t get my USEF discount anytime they have a sales promotion, even if I don’t use the promotion.

I get free shipping using the barn savers program. I haven’t had any issues recently with items being shipped to me.

I’m relieved someone else resurrected this thread because I had an issue a few days ago. I was trying to order an item that was Holiday19 eligible, and despite me removing my USEF membership # from my SmartPak account, it wouldn’t let me apply the discount. I contacted customer service, and they said they resolved the issue and “weren’t sure why it wasn’t working but it’s working now.”

Is that true? I don’t know, because I ended up ordering the items from the UK for less than what they cost at SmartPak…and that INCLUDES the international shipping! I also know the items will actually show up in time for Christmas.

I’ve gone back to SmartPak once every few months in the hopes that it’s somehow better, but EVERY single time I go to add something to my cart and order, something goes wrong tech-wise and I end up quitting and never ordering from them. I don’t think I’ve purchased anything from them since mid-2018? I don’t miss them at all.

I’m #teamDover now, I’ve been ordering from them regularly and have been pleased every single time.

I had an issue with a discount not applying, and all I had to do was call them and they fixed it for me immediately then processed the order over the phone using the info in my cart.

This has been the case for a bit now, it is not new.
Somethings are labelled ride along items and they do not qualify for free shipping unless they are shipped along with other stuff. Last time I looked there was a clear label saying that in your shopping cart.

Amazon does the same thing.

The items in my cart have no such note on them. Amazon makes it very clear which items don’t qualify for free prime shipping by themselves. Again, I was trying to buy $50 between 2 items, not a single tube of wormer.

I can currently get what I wanted from RidingWarehouse for cheaper. They also currently have free shipping and they always have free returns.
