Anyone ever put things on consignment w. Middleburg Tack Exchange?
I’m thinking of sending them a hunt coat (average condition) and a pair of new boots (Ariat Crowne Pros, 3/4 lining, no zipper).
What does happen, if it doesn’t sell, though?

I took a bunch of stuff back about Christmas last year and I think about 3/4 of it is sold. They give you a contract when you bring your stuff in that explains everything: they won’t keep stuff indefinitely, but I was told they aren’t terribly strict about the time limit. When your time is up, you have the option of picking it back up if it didn’t sell but you are responsible for knowing when that time limit is. I gave them permission to donate anything of mine not sold when they “clean house” on the consignments. Hope this helps: I was very surprised and happy with the results.
I have, before I started doing consignments myself. They are pretty easy to deal with. They take a 25% cut on saddles, and 40% on all other items. The contract specifies when your “time” is up on items, and then they go on the clearance rack at 50% off the price unless you pick them up by the end of your “time.”
The pricing can sometimes be wacky – I have seen items priced WELL below their value, while other items are well ABOVE their value. It really depends whether the consignor sets the price, or the MTE owner or an employee. *edited to add that most items are VERY accurately priced. Lord knows I would really hate to total up the amount of $$$$$ that I have spent there over the years! 
I have sent things on consignment, and in some cases have been stunned by the prices they had to have gotten to send me the checks they did.
I only found one thing that they were way under-priced on, and they sent that back at my request.
Over the years I have sold more than $5000.00 worth of used horse related items through them with Zero problems

I think the period is six months. I’ve had some rudeness issues with the owner but that’s just way she is. It’s a good shop. If it’s a common size; it WILL sell!!

I can understand how you feel…I just put her in the category of “a real character” given her age etc and don’t let it bother me. She actually has some grand tales to tell!
I have sold many things there (including a saddle :), and though you are going to “take a hit” vs selling stuff on Ebay (I had a friend sell another of my saddles on Ebay, and got way more $$ for it than I would have by consigning it), you can basically drop things off and forget about them, and wait to receive a check in the mail. If you consign several things, they will hold the check until enough of them have sold to justify one larger check, as opposed to sending you a bunch of small checks.
They ARE (especially the owner :lol:) very picky about the condition of what you bring in to consign. If it has ANY holes, stains, signs of wear, etc., they will either turn it down or really lowball it.
That said, I have seen a couple of used saddles that were in pretty horrid condition :eek: I’m thinking the owner wasn’t manning the desk and checking out the incoming consignments on the days those came in…
As an alternative ,so friend of mine have started and on line used tack store.VintageTack.com they are just starting up ,but it is another way to go to get your stuff sold. I think they take less commission.
I sold everything, tack, pads blankets, clothing. studs kit and my much loved:yes: book collection; I console myself with the thought that someone else is enjoying/ using them;)
I’m sending them a pair of unused, new black field boots (Ariat Crowne Pros), non-zip, new except for slight mar on the leather of one of the legs (yes, on the outside part of the leg, but not a big deal).
I bought them because they were a great, great price. However, they are 3/4 lined and I really need a full lining because I can get stirrup leather burns through anything but a non-full lining !
I’ve tried to sell them myself but they don’t sell. There are lots of non-zip, new Ariat Crownes Pro out there.
Question is: I’ve got an older not that nice melton coat to sell also. I can send it with the boots and probably get not much when it sells or I had an offer here for ($40) and they would pay for shipping.
Better to sell the coat to the above buyer or sent to Middleburg with boots?

We no longer take clothing or boots, but our saddle and tack sales are tremendous now that we’ve relocated across from the Warrenton Show grounds…
