Anyone familar with Stallion: Sherlock Holmes? I am looking at sale horse by this stallion. Just wondering what kind of temperment his offspring usually have. Thanks.

Was at celle, owner brought home and he dissapered. Semen not very good when I checked to breed to him.
His son Shakespeare in Love is a good guy. The temperament I have seen in just a handful was normal. Not dull but not crazy

Bred by the Kleemeyers, he was sold to Celle and was the winner of the 300 day test at Adelheidsdorf in 1992. He stood at Celle (If I remember correctly, he was a favorite riding stallion for the breeding director) until declining fertility arose, and he AND his son Sherwood were purchased privately. Neither one were very fertile, though you will see offspring by them from time to time.
I’ve never heard of any issues with temperament, he and Sherwood had very positive rideability indices (120 or above).

Bought a Sherlock Holmes broodmare for a client and when she arrived, it was all I could do not to steal her!
Performers all the way along. Versatility at its best. He makes fantastic mares. Not always with the prettiest heads but I’d have one in my barn anytime for their athletic ability and strength for both disciplines.
Offspring include Sam Steele, Shakespear in Love (sire of fantastic horses of his own standing e.g. Söhnlein Brilliant… nowadays himself an S-level successful horse) and successful at S-level dressage (Shakespear that is…), Sir Schölling, Sherwood and Sherwood Forest to name only a few of his approved stallion sons. Among his many superb daughters (I daresay he is an even better producer as a damsire than as direct sire) is SPS Sarah who has produced the 1.60m horse Saint Amour, Salut d’Amour (1.40m) and the WBFSH-ranked SPS Sarah Bella (1.50m) all by Stakkato. Sarina P has produced Spartakhus (approved, right now competing at 1.30). Sherlock Holmes’ daughter Sherglana was a prolific winner in hand.
Last but not least his daughter Serve well FRH (dam by Warkant-Eiger I-Westgote) is a true phenomenon. Successful at CCI**** (under Andreas Dibowski) as well as in S-level dressage (under her long time owner and trainer Beate Hohnfeldt this mare is the epitome of a horse with all the possibilities one could wish for.
If you look at Schorsch FRH you see another Sherlock Holmes son who represents everything this stallion stands for: Unlimited will to perform and physical ability. The horse has won a WC-qualifier in eventing as well as no less than 26 1.20 show jumping classes as well as competed dressage successfully up to M-level.
If you can get hands on a Sherlock Holmes kid: Go for it!

I have worked with a Sam Steel gelding. He was interesting enough to train and ride but safe and easy enough to sit that he was competed by a Junior and then sold to an Adult Am who now does some dressage and Feild Hunts him! He did have a rather common old style head, like some have stated, but when 95%+ of the market is non-professional riders his unflappable temperment made up for what he lacked in the looks department.

Interested in whether you purchased the Sherlock Holmes baby? I bought a SH colt as a weanling; wonderful fancy guy with excellent movement, willingness and trainability. My interests turned to jumpers, so I sold him as a pre-green hunter. Fetched very high price. Purchaser unfortunately didnt do much with him. Still owns him, though.
Elite Mare Papagena, owned by Marefield Meadows in Warrenton, VA has the full sister to Sherlock Holmes, named SPS Samantha, as her dam. EM Papagena is the dam of two approved stallions in the USA- Deklan by Dauphin and Constantin by Contucci (now gelded). She is also the grand dam of my stallion, Shakespeare RSF (by Sandro Hit). Papagena was herself very successful. She was Champion Filly and Champion Young Horse at Dressage at Devon in 1994, Young Horse Champion and Reserve Grand Champion PVDA in 1995, and Champion mare at her Hanoverian inspection.
I know Sam Steele stood in Canada for a long time, then was offered for sale. I heard he wasnt’ used much and was actually considering him. Now you don’t hear anything about him. Anyone know where he went?
