Thinking about giving this a feed a try, but not sure how hard keepers would do on it. I have an OTTB who has recently been a bit of a hard keeper, but is doing better and recently discovered my PITA mare seems to have a soy intolerance. She is doing fine on ReNew Gold and alfalfa pellets but Crypto Aero has recenty peaked my interest. and I would love to simply the feed routine. right now I am feeding everyone Kalm n EZ, Essential K, alfalfa pellets and the hard keepers get K-finish. We grow our own hay and it is excellent quality, and after getting some excellent 2 nd cutting I have been able to cut back on the alfalfa pellets for the hard keepers.
We’ve had at least one really great thread about that stuff. Let’s see here…

The tl;dr is that it’s a $$$ designer feed without fortification and probably not suitable for many.
Thanks for the link… very interesting… sounds like maybe i should just stick with my current feed plan. doesn’t sound like i would be saving much or see that much of an improvement since I would still need to find a really good vitamin and mineral supplement. Interestingly I messaged them on Facebook, and detailed my horse situation, and the only thing they focussed on was possible dealer locations… Guess I will stick to Tribute at least they get back to me and if they don’t know an answer will consult with their research Vets and get back to you with a real answer.
High Point Grass (HorseTech), California Trace (California Trace), U-Balance Foundation or Sporthorse Grass (Uckele), Arizona Copper Complete (HorseTech, and others) are some good quality, well-fortified v/m supplements that can work with a variety of forages.
Totally not surprised you just got a sales reply on your questions. They’re terrible at actually providing real answers to real questions
I noticed they added to their product line… But you’d think they’d have the NSC/ingredients list for the metabolism line easily available.
On the ingredients page, it lists only 1.5% for starch, and 5% sugar for the wild forage one. Is that legit? I mean, most hay isn’t that low… And alfalfa pellets, timothy pellets, and chopped grass are the first three ingredients.
ETA: Wouldn’t ever feed this due to the owner’s prior COTH meltdown, but curious for my own education.
@MyssMyst yeah i was little put off by just getting a sales rep type response. But then again I’ve always gotten very detailed responses from Tribute so i guess i was expecting better from something so specialized and more expensive. I had asked Tribute about changing to senior or Ultra and if it would be okay for my Cushings Mare and they were like ummm no… lol so I’ve stayed with what we are on… they were also very helpful about my potential pregnant mare and made suggestions for her feed regime.
and yeah after reading the thread Simkie linked to… not sure i will be trying it.
If you like the concept, it’s pretty easy to just mix it up. Oats, timothy pellets, alfalfa pellets. Add some flax if you want some omega 3. If you like the pea protein, you can get big bags at restaurant supply. The cool ingredients like rose hips and papaya are not present in enough quantity to make a difference, so just skip those.
If you have a feed mill nearby, they can probably do a custom mix for you. They could maybe even add in their vitamin/mineral pack.
The CONCEPT isn’t terrible. The execution and executive direction on the company is lacking :-/
Also at least around here buying a bag of oats and s bag of hay cubes or pellets, and beet pulp if you want, is absolutely the cheapest grain option. But CA is freaking expensive, more than any of the premixed feeds.
Feeding your own mash of basics does require also paying for a vitamin mineral supplement and that increases the total cost. But you’d need that with CA as well.
