Anyone have a Dakota saddle?

I tried one today on my hard to fit horse, it fit. Lady had it custom made for her horse, built similar to mine.

Any comments on the brand? She told me how much they were, which wasn’t much. Saddle was comfy and “looked” ok.

This was the saddle I rode in…

I ride more and harder than she does, so am harder on my tack, so would like to invest in a well made saddle.

BUT… this saddle really did fit my horse…

I used to have one–i forget which model. I lost a bunch of weight and the seat became too big, so I sold it, but I remember the saddle being fantastic quality for the price point. Thick leather, solid tree, made in the USA if I recall correctly. Go for it!

I had one and loved it. Still kicking myself for selling it. Great saddle.

I have a Dakota reining saddle and love it.

I have one just like the one pictured. I won’t part with it.

Meh…c+ quality.

We bought one last year (2212 I think), we were very happy with it. Beautiful tooling, solid and a great buy. The only thing that seemed cheap was the lightweight stirrups that could not handle hitting the knee knocker trees, they are all scuffed up, but not a big deal as they can easily be replaced. Our is a really pretty brown color as well. I checked the reviews before we bought it and the greatest percentage was great reviews.

I have a custom made Dakota barrel saddle, and I got in in black. I would never get black again, because the leather doesn’t hold the dye very well.

However, I know several people who bought off-the-rack Dakota saddles that are your traditional browns and they are fine.

For the money you pay, they are pretty decent quality. If they fit my horse better, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another.

Their trees have too much rock to them, and my guy has a rather flat back. They do have a nice flare in the shoulder area which I liked for my guy.

They are great, made in USA… last a long time with alot of use.

I really like mine.

Late to this but…

I have a Dakota. They are built tough and sturdy. Leather is probably thicker than more $$ saddles but they are a good bang for the buck. Mine is a heavy roping saddle and I do not use it anymore because I can not handle the weight of the saddle due to illness.

I have a barrel saddle that is almost twenty years old. Fits most of my horses so it gets used a lot. Very pleased with it, especially for the price.

I bought a youth one for my lesson program and it also fits most of the horses and was a deal for what I paid.
