Anyone have a Toy Fox Terrier

I’ve recently acquired one. It was unplanned but he needed a home before the arctic freeze moved in. A dog show friend had a house fire last month. I am already fostering two of his Japanese Chins (looking for a new permanent home, see Giveaways forum) and went to pick up his two house cats about ten days ago. Luke was one of the remaining dogs at the house and had been living in a pen out back. The co-owner/breeder was supposed to take him back but bailed on them.

I couldn’t let him stay there with single digit weather coming so I took him home. Didn’t really plan on keeping him but I decided late last week that he could stay. My four ACDs get along with him and he is wicked smart which is good because he wasn’t house trained and had no manners at all. In just a week he is doing well on the house training and has picked up sit, down, and stand. The co-owner has agreed to sign over his AKC papers so I’m going to try showing him in conformation and rally next spring.

And best of all…I get to shop for adorable little sweaters and coats for him.

ohmuhgosh YES!!! I’m in Tacoma, are you near? And who was the breeder?

If you want help with showing, my friend is in Snohomish, one of my dogs is from her-

In fact, my dog is on the first page, named, Dulce, if you scroll down. She is now show retired, spayed, and excels in snuggling, trying new food, and generally being the happiest dog ever.

Buck is my other, he was a puppy mill breeding dog (you can tell his conformation is whacky and he is too big), so he is more reserved but he is also the best dog ever!

They learn FAST, and listen well (unlike what I have heard about JRTs, etc).

Ran-Dom Equine Designs (on Facebook) makes me custom snuggly bkankets, etc for the dogs. I also have Pessoa, Bakers, etc., from Foggy Mountain.

My two threads have pics of the dogs  Alto here also has a TFT and is a very knowledgeable gal.

There was one in the household when I was a kid. I phrase it like that because while he would entertain interaction with other people, he was fiercely loyal to my younger sister (we got him when she was…6? years old).

He was a giveaway out of the local newspaper, we got him at 11 years old when my sister would not shut up about getting a smaller dog that would be “hers”. (We are a big dog family.) My mother admitted, years later, that she picked him out because he was “old” and was hoping he’d die in a few years. Yeah, he lived until 19.

He velcroed himself to my sister right from the beginning, and was a super smart little fellow. Knew all the tricks a 6 year old could think to teach him, played fetch, was fine off leash, played well with people and other animals, etc. He was pretty endearing, if you could handle his high energy and bounciness. Definitely a good dog to run around with kids all day.

I say this as a non-terrier person…he WAS a yapper and I DID occasionally think about strangling him. He was mostly blind by the time he was about 17, but was mostly healthy and died of just plain old age at 19. Went to sleep and didn’t wake up.

Twotrudoc - I’m over in Yakima but I’ll PM you more info tonight.

Luke isn’t much of a barker (thankfully). I’m really looking forward to training him.

I was wondering if we were going to need to ask for PICTURES!

Another handsome little fellow, how neat.

Those little dogs live forever, our minpin 40+ years ago lived to 17.
He slept in the kitchen broom closet and didn’t wake up one morning.
The day before he had been running around with the great dane and other assorted dogs, still healthy and happy.

Those are wonderful dogs, as you are finding out and I expect you are hearing already from so many others.

They make great show dogs,.
I don’t know anything about conformation, but can say that rally will be great for him.
