Anyone have any YouTube trainers or books they recommend for groundwork/liberty training?

Hi friends! Wondering if anyone has a YouTube trainer or book that they really love for groundwork. I think I’ve officially decided to adopt a mustang and while I will be working with a TIP trainer, and am an experienced horsewoman, I do want to brush up on my groundwork.

Not looking for Clinton Anderson materials, but trainers who use positive reinforcement.

Thank you!

I’ve been enjoying this website by a pair of British trainers who seem to do only Positive Training. I do alot of clicker training for ground work with my mustang convert but conventional training for under saddle. It seems fine to combine to two methods. I found it an interesting insight into that way of working with horses though.

Also you could check out Warwick Schiller - he has lots of doable training videos. I have really benefitted from his way of going slower when the horse says no. Has made me a more thoughtful trainer!

I also like Jonathan Field who does amazing liberty work. He has a complete series you can by but also lots online.

and for fun inspiration - Sam van Fleet who competes in mustang makeovers. I like her earlier liberty training videos (made when she was a teenager!), more than the actual prepping for competition in mustang makeover events.

Mustang Maddy was very fun for awhile, but she doesn’t seem to be posting new material.

Have fun!

Tristan Tucker.

Manolo Mendez’s website, Facebook page, and DVD (streaming on Vimeo). He is a kind and gentle teacher who is always concerned with the horse’s physical and emotional welfare.

Double Dan Horsemanship has some good groundwork DVDs up through advanced long reining and liberty work. You could start with Ground Control Level 1 and work your way up.

Also +1 for Tristan Tucker and Manolo Mendez.

Hackett Equine- she’s a trainer in the UK who follows tristan tucker’s methods. She is big into going back to the basics of groundwork when starting a horse, getting a new horse, or dealing with a horse with issues. She has her main channel with vlogs and a few with groundwork. Her main groundwork videos are on her patreon page and are super inexpensive at $8 a month (canadian so less in US dollars ). You can do higher tiers that include video lessons so there’s a lot to choose from.
