Anyone have the current Wintec Pro All Purpose (NOT the Wintec 2000 or 500) with square cantle?

I’ve been scouting this saddle for over a year now… and I’ve waited to see if I could find a used one to buy to give it a test drive but can’t seem to find one.

The Wintec Pro All Purpose has the square cantle and Wintec’s website says:

“All Purpose saddle for riders who participate in more jumping and prefer greater freedom of movement in the seat.”

Dover’s website says:

“The Wintec Pro All-Purpose Saddle with square cantle is ideal for riders who spend lots of time in disciplines that involve jumping.”

Stateline Tack’s website says:

“Deep, all purpose seat with a lower, square cantle formaximum freedom for the rider”

So what I want to know is, is the seat any different in depth and in the twist from the other two Wintec All Purpose saddles (The AP 2000 and the AP 500) or is this the same seat (depth, twist) with just a squared off cantle? I’m going to assume the flap is exactly the same on all three models.

I own the current model of the Wintec 500 All Purpose.

And yes, I’ve tried writing to Wintec (and Dover) and their replies were far from enlightening. :-\

Thank you!

Bump. I’m curious, too.

I had a wintec pro with a square cantle. Evidently if it’s the pro jump, it says jump somewhere on it, so I’m assuming I got lied to and mine was the all purpose. I hated it. And I love wintec so… this far my favorite has been the wintec CC older model. Not the new. Haven’t tried the new one, but they don’t come highly recommended.

OP, not sure if you’re still wanting your question answered… but Dover had the Wintec Pro AP on closeout and I purchased one. I’ve had three rides in it and am really enjoying it!

It’s been years since I’ve ridden in a Wintec 2000 (which I loved, btw), but the seat on this saddle does indeed seem less deep than I recall on the 2000. I visually confirmed this at the tack store the other day-- I made a point to check out the 2000 on the rack and it looked deeper, to me, than my Pro AP at home. I feel the Pro AP rides much more similarly to my CC saddle than my dressage saddle. I have not jumped in it yet, but I don’t anticipate it being an issue.

The twist is still pretty wide, though, IMO. My only minor complaint is that I have short legs, and between the longish flap and the wide twist, I don’t have much leg left to put on the horse!

It seems like a lot of the retailers have either stopped stocking them or have them discounted at the moment, which makes me think Wintec is discontinuing the model.

R2R- on the underside of mine, the serial number begins with “WP” (I assume for “Wintec Pro”) and ends with “AP.” I don’t know if you still have yours, but you could probably confirm based on the serial number.

@Texarkana Thank you for your feedback!

I think though, that the Wintec 2000, from yeaaaars ago, was the same saddle (frame / tree / seat) wise as what was the once 500 (and is now the 250). So I think it may be like comparing apples to oranges.

I actually got to a Wintec booth at Pony Club nationals a few months back, and sat in the Pro AP, but of course it wasn’t in my size (larger) and they didn’t have the same larger size in the 500 or the 2000 to compare. :-\

I just wrote Wintec to point blank ask them if the seat in the squared cantle Pro AP is physically shallower than the seat in the 2000 or 500 APs I had asked the ‘chat’ people on Dover’s, and another’s, website and of course they don’t have a clue.

@Starting-Point-Stables No problem! It’s been over 7 months since I bought the saddle and I’m still enjoying it. I feel quite comfortable jumping up to 3’ in it (which is the most I ever do). I love it for XC schooling. It’s become my favorite saddle I have ever owned, and I’ve had some nice ones. A couple trainers who have gotten on my horse and jumped around have commented that it was really comfortable, too.

I believe you’re correct that the 250/500/2000 are the same basic design and only vary in the materials used. I seem to recall hearing that from others.

FWIW, I also have a Pro Dressage which is a much more “open” seat than the Isabell I had before. Maybe all the Pros have less deep seats?
