I’m going to cross post this in Dressage, but he says he also does HJ stuff. Looking to start working with him and wondering if anyone knows him! He opperates Skeleton Key Sporthorses out of Retama Equestrian Center in Selma (San Antonio), TX. His assistant trainer is Krystalynn Young.

Michael is actually a dressage trainer. He’s a friend of a friend from when I was down in Dallas.

A friend recently revealed this video to me and I was shocked! I have not, nor will I ever condone anyone treating any animal this way! If anyone ever tries to claim that this is what I teach they are lying. The proof is in the pudding; come watch me train, come watch me teach, come see how horses respond to me and decide for yourself.
He has also encouraged people not to blame the veterinary office where this girl works since God knows employers can hardly be expected to know every insane thing an employee might do in life.
They did send it to her place of employment and they stated they contacted their attorney and suspended her.

As far as I know, they parted company months ago. (Or maybe longer than that–I’m not connected enough to know the timeline, but I know they parted company and it wasn’t terribly recently.)
According to this, Krystalynn is (or at one time was) his fiancé. If that’s the case, how on earth could he be “shocked”? I’d have to venture to guess he’d be well aware of what his fiancé/assistant trainer was doing.

It’s not actually an article. It was like a flyer from when Michael was injured what? A year and a half ago?
They were engaged. Um, i also dated a shiesty horseman in Texas. Rest assured he didn’t learn it from me.

Based on the bits and pieces of information I know about the situation between him and Krystalynn, my limited direct experience with Michael (auditing a few clinics), and conversations I have had over the years with people who have trained more extensively with him and whose approach to horsemanship I know…
I’m inclined to give him every benefit of the doubt and not try to drag him into or blame him for something Krystalynn did months after they parted company.
I’m getting a ton of PMs about this thread, which is almost four years old. I put this up four years ago when I was offered, by his then fiancé, a job. I decided not to take it due to some other reason from back then. I did not put this up to bash Krystalynn. Feel free to start another thread it Off Course or something if you want to flood the boards about Krystalynn’s video. That sort of questionable horsemanship and some questionable riding by her (who at the time was his assistant) was the reason I decided to pursue other opportunities four years ago.
However, Michael has never been anything other than kind and respectable to myself and all other professionals around. He has a booming business with Dressage clients, though he does still do some jumper/eventing stuff.
So please, let’s not pull up a four year old thread and put another professionals name with this mess due to his dating habits.
Micheal is being very unclear about when his business relationship with this asshat ended… that doesn’t serve him well.
I would buy the idea that 'Michael has never been anything other than kind and respectable to myself and all other professionals around. ’ If he was clearer about when his business divested itself of this person.

It ended at some point last year. I don’t know exactly when, but there is a lot of craziness there with her as well. He doesn’t even train out of Retama anymore and has his own place.
