Anyone here have a Macel saddle?

I’m trying one that is for sale at a local tack shop.

I posted this question in the h/j forum because the saddle I’m looking is a jump saddle but I thought I would ask here too because this company makes dressage saddles as well.

Has anyone ridden/owned one. I liked it but they are asking quite a bit and if I have to sell it I’m not sure I could because it is so unknown.

Any information would be appreciated. I can’t find much on the internet

Thanks.

I owned one for a while. They are nicely made, typical foam flocked french saddle. I loved the way it fit me, didn’t fit my horse too well so I sold it.

I paid $1500 in like new condition, sold it for $1000 I think?

Thanks. The price is similar. Will the foam flocking have to be replaced?

If it is a macel mono flap dressage saddle if you don’t buy it send me the tack shops number!

No it’s the jump saddle. It is not a mono flap. I like the way it sits -me and my horse. I was just nervous about the price since I cannot find anyone who actually has one. I appreciate all the info I can get.

I have owned several Macel jump saddles and ridden extensively in them (eventing with French trainers). I deeply regret selling my last one! I had the monoflap jump saddle (exposed blocks and girth). I paid $1500 for one 20 years ago, and that was with my trainer going to France and ordering a bunch of them.

If you decide against it, would you PM me and give me tack shop contact info? Pretty please?

As for resale, I should think that you would have decent resale value if you sold it online because there are still Macel fans out there. Try to talk the saddle shop down, and check the flocking. I think mine were flocked with foam and not wool.

Did you sell yours on ebay a year or so ago? If you did I think I bought it!

No, not me! How long did you look before you found one?

I just wandered upon it by chance. There was only one other bidder then me and I was high bidder at around $1,500. There were two of them on there a few months ago a jump and a dressage but the seats were to small for me. I check ebay once a week for one!

Watermark Farm, you must ride with Valerie? That is who I bought mine from. I sold it on Ebay, maybe it was mine? I sold mine in 2006.

I thought I sold it for $1000-1200 though…

I know I didn’t pay more then $1,500 for it. The reserve was $1,000 and it is an almost butterscotch colour mono flap with the blocks on the outside. It is an older saddle but in great shape and I love it.

Oh no, mine was the dark brown regular jumping saddle, not the monoflap.

I loved mine, but it did not come anywhere near fitting my horse at the time, and would have been even worse on my new horse.

I have a Macel jump saddle…

I have a Macel jump saddle- I used to event in it and I love it! Very well-balanced and secure over big fences, wonderful leathers and beautifully made. I am thinking of selling it (alas, my horses are getting old…!), so if you have any advice on fair market value- I would appreciate it! Although they are not common, they are really nice saddles. Good Luck+ thanks for any info. you can share!

my trainer rides in Macels and i had one for a while… it fit my mare beautifully, didnt need any adjustments AT ALL, was a lovely saddle but the one i had had a wide twist and i just couldnt find my balance in it. the regular twists were fine bnut the wide one didnt work for me.

i still regret that since it was a great saddle and fit my mare so well!

when i sold it it sold within a week. the price was 1500 i believe. i would buiy another if i found one that fit me

I recently bought a Macel monoflap jump saddle from our trainer. I tried to find out if Macel still exists, but to no avail. Finally Googled “macel sellerie” and found Macel. It is under new ownership as of 3 years ago. They still make the same monoflap jump saddle. I inquired and the monoflap is 2600 euros plus shipping.
