Anyone keep/display a saddle(s) in your house?

My mare passed away a couple of years ago and I decided to keep her two saddles (both are jumper saddles). I may sell one at some point soon, but right now I can’t bring myself to do it yet.

I can’t find my saddle stand… it was the typical black foldable one you see everywhere.

I could buy a new one but I’m wondering if anyone uses a different thing to put them on. There are some beautiful wood ones out there but they’re extremely expensive and I’d rather not spend that kind of $$$$

Feel free to share, pics help too :hugs:

Yep, I put a Stackhouse on a stand in the living room! Frigging piece of leather art work  AND IT IS TOUCHABLE LEATHER. every day you just stroke it LOL

Only had it while it fit a growing horse, real bummer to have to sell it.

Yes! And there’s no shame in it. I have an Albion Kontrol and a Bob Marshall in my living room right now. Haha.
Years ago I bought a set of saddle stand plans off eBay. I built it (with help lol) and it came out beautiful. Like a piece of furniture actually. I think it cost about $100 to build, and I know it’s more now since lumber is sky high, but I think I still have the PDF of the plans if you want them.
I am no carpenter by any means, but it was not difficult.

DH’s close contact lives on the back of a DR chair in my LR.

we just have kept the saddles as no one really wants to give you much for them even though we spend thousands having them made, so we just have kept them. Other tack is reused (expect for their halters and leads, which are still hanging in place in the barn, sort of a memorial and encouragement to the replacement stock that they have big shoes to fill)

You could use wall-mounted racks which would not clutter your floor space. You could spray paint it to match your decor. Schneider’s has one that holds two saddles.

My horse also passed on a number of years ago and I donated an all-purpose saddle to a rescue but couldn’t part with my dressage saddle.

Quilt/blanket stands work great and look more like furniture than the typical saddle stand.

This is what I was going to suggest. A quilt stand works marvelously.

I love that idea! …as long as the quilt stand isn’t too high… that would look odd

Quilt stand here too!

I’ve purchased several from the Salvation Army/Goodwill. Love them.

The wooden one in the house came from a used tack sale for $10.

Yes, my old Courbette Custom Futura is worth nothing. It sits in the corner with my old Vogels and my Millers velvet skull cap. All three are works of art from another Era and full of memories of friends, adventures and the horse of a lifetime.

Check out etsy. I think someone sells wood saddle rack kits that are easy to put together.

Mom’s saddle has lived in her bedroom for the last 10+ years on an antique quilt rack in her bedroom. I made a saddle rack that will fit in my IKEA based closet for my no longer used saddle. It fits in like a shelf, with the saddle sitting parallel to the back of the closet.

BTW, if someone is interested in a 60-70 year old Barnsby cutback, let me know. It’s ready to ride in, still gets conditioned annually.

All the quilt rack suggestions… seems every quilt rack I see has long wood bars across the top… 1 or 2 of them. Seems they would dig into the leather panels and create dents. What kind of racks are you guys referring to??
