Don’t know if I’m late to the party but have this from a reliable source.
It’s kind of odd given Smartpak’s recent “transaction” with Uckele

Maybe they will become the Canadian distributor or something because you can’t get Smartpak in Canada.
?? from SmartPack web site
SmartPack USA is a registered importer to Canada, and readily ships to Canada via USPS, FedEx, Truck and Air Freight options.
How much will I pay for shipping? All orders totaling $75 or more will qualify for our flat-rate shipping of just $5.95. Orders less than $75 are eligible for flat-rate shipping of $14.95
Ok, I was wrong! Never seen or heard of folks using it here, though. The exchange rate makes American products anywhere from 35 to 40 per cent more expensive plus whatever fees your credit card charges for doing the exchange.
From what I heard, Greenhawk is taking over lease of Smartpak’s retail location. Current Smartpak employees will be receiving severance package. Remains to be seen if some will later be rehired by Greenhawk.
I don’t really see how Greenhawk can do anything much different than already existing retail outlets of Dover Saddlery or Stateline Tack in the neighborhood.
I always thought supplements were the core business for Smartpak. It never made sense to me when they tried to get into soft goods. They were such a distant third unless maybe it was pure convenience for people already getting monthly Smartpaks.
Oh they are opening up an American outlet? Well I hope that goes ok. Sometimes cross border moves thrive and sometimes they don’t. Greenhawk has all the basics but definitely bargain entry level tack. Perhaps it will be enticingly cheap in $US?
Weird. I am Canadian and never shopped at Smartpak (even though I do sometimes buy US goods and go across the border to pick them up) because Smartpak wouldn’t accept a Canadian credit card. You had to have a US address associated with the credit card itself.
I feel id read here in COTH that Smartpak wasn’t available in Canada. It’s possible that changed with the buyout.
The Canadian market is very small and it’s quite common for American companies not to ship here. If you live near the border you can get a mail.drop box on the American side.
I use a service called Ship it To Us that charges a small fee for receiving and holding packages.
Fir it to be worthwhile, the item has to either be deeply discounted or simply not available in Canada. The US exchange rate has been bad for a couple years now, and I have to factor in my time and gas to go get something, as well as possible duties and taxes when I return.
to be honest Greenhawk quality is meh and their selection is limited - don’t see any advantage for people over Dover, from what I have seen the “cheap” stuff I bought from Dover (via Amazon) is similar price point and better quality.
Last time I checked, which I admit was a few years back, Smartpak didn’t ship to Canada then. They must have changed their policy at some point, but I haven’t checked since.
Smartpak has been available in Canada for several years but the selection was very poor so I don’t know anyone who actually used it. There were only a handful of supps you could order - the website always said more options coming soon or something to that effect, but I haven’t checked it in quite some time.
That is not SmartPak’s website - the site you linked is for packaging products. The SmartPak that sells equine supplements, tack, etc still does not ship to Canada:
Currently we are unable to ship anywhere outside of the United States. We’re working on making international shipping a possibility in the future, and we hope that you will continue to check in with us.
When that came out, I took a look and wrote it off - hardly any items available, less expensive to buy elsewhere, and they only offered supplements with none of the tack or other items. I don’t know anyone who actually used it.
If you called them, they could manually process your Canadian credit card, but the website never did get fixed so that it accepted them. It was a pain! I figured out that if you shopped online and added items to your cart, then called them, they could access your cart and then apply payment so you didn’t have to dictate your order to them.
