Anyone Know This Brand?

So, my mare has a very faint brand that you normally can’t see but is currently very clear. It looks like a hanoverian brand with an 8 in the middle, but it’s on her right hip. I’ve always been told that she was from Argentina but I don’t actually have any record of this and it would have been well before I owned her. Anyway, I’m trying to hunt down anything I can about her breeding and was wondering if anyone knew anything about this brand:

Thanks!!

Hmmm it doesn’t look like the brands my Argentinian mare has. She has a saddle shaped brand on her left hip (Silla Argentino brand), an interconnected LT lower on the same hip (La Tatabra breeder brand), and 3 numbers next to her tail (registration numbers).

Yeah, I’ve looked for hind end brands but it doesn’t look like there’s anything there, and I haven’t been able to tell if there’s anything on the left side unfortunately :frowning:

That isn’t where the Argentine registry brand would be but we had several horses from Argentina and more recently brazil who have secondary brands from the breeders. If she doesn’t have brands on both sides of her tail she’s not a registered Argentine WB, but god knows she could still be from Argentina. Or Arkansas.

You may never know.

Haha, right? Now I’m starting to wonder if it could even be that she was out of the stallion Argentan… I mean, this all could just be one big game of horse sales telephone.

It would be really great to know though because I’m looking into breeding her.

Yeah, you’ll certainly want to know her breeding and registration info if you plan on breeding.

We had a girl at our barn who bought what was clearly a ranch/PMU horse out of Canada that had a big sloppy ranch brand on her shoulder, and the girl knew this, but proceeded to tell everyone she was a “New Zealand Warmblood” and tried to sell her as such.

Yeah, the more I look into it the more it seems like it might be that she’s out of the hanoverian stallion Argentan. Hmm, well that’s a whole new avenue to explore I guess.

Hooo boy, that’s rough. I’ve never understood people doing that, especially when you have a situation where the horse is very clearly not what it’s being sold as.

If she is by Argentan, there have to be breeding certificates and hopefully registration papers and inspection results somewhere.

Is she over 20? Is there Argentan frozen? I have no single clue.

She is! She in theory should be 21 this year. I’ve had her for 12 years now but at some point any papers my family got with her sale went m.i.a.
