Anyone make stall guards?

I’m planning on crafting some stall guards. I’ve ordered some cordura and my plan is to, essentially, make something with pockets on the top and bottom and run dowels/chain through the pockets. I think this might be the easiest.

But I’m wondering if anyone else has made stall guards and wants to share your process in case you’ve thought of something I haven’t!

There are a few on Etsy that do this (check out ManeAlternative although there are others too). Some are cordura and some look more like a thick plastic (like a sign banner you’d get from Staples). For the most part they put a pocket at the top and bottom and then slide a rubber coated stall chain through the pocket.

I have. Used the cordura too, but I use 4 large D rings and clips instead of a pocket and chain. It just fit better with what I wanted, but I did look at that method too.

I used a nylon webbing (about and 1 1/2" wide) to edge it. I made sure I left about 4" of the nylon webbing on the top and the bottom pieces out past the end so I could put the D ring on and then sewed the end of the webbing to the back. Then I stitched the D ring at the top of the loop so it didn’t flop around. I was going to leave it flopping, but I think it makes it stronger when it doesn’t move. If any of that makes sense… lol.

Then I took it to a fabric place that embroiders and had it embroidered with our barn name and my last name. I also used a piping color around the inside of the nylon webbing, so I used our 3 barn colors.

I’ve now made about 50 billion of these, or so it seems haha! Everyone wants one and since riders come and go, it’s a constant barrage of “can you make me one?” I also made bandage slings for the front of the stalls, done with the same fabric and webbing/piping. I used to put grommets on those, but they are such a pain, so now I use the D ring method on those too.

I’ve made curtains, trunk covers, slinky’s for horses that rub their braids (largest ones NEVER fit warmbloods it seems). It seems there is a never ending supply of people that would like custom stuff sewn and I’m the sucker that seems to be stupid enough to try making it
