Anyone own a Cimarron trailer?

Curious about feedback on them, specifically a 2+1 or 2+2. A friend piqued my interest about them and from what I can tell online they seem fairly solid but I’ve never really heard of them nor do you hear them when people talk about the top brands. I currently have a 4Star 2+1 that I am less than impressed with as I bought it lightly used and its had nothing but issue after issue. Id love to replace it and had planned to with another 4Star (assuming I got a lemon since everyone else loves theirs) or an EBY (impossible to find used) but Cimarron has caught my attention. They seem to have a better warranty than 4Star and all of the options we would want.

Anyway just curious about real world feedback.

I own a Cimarron 2+1. I’ve been very happy with it and have not had any issues. I bought it new 5 years ago.

4 Star and Cimarron are available at 2 different dealerships not far from where I live so I had the opportunity to check them both out.
I preferred the experience much better at TransWest (Cimarron) than the other dealership so that certainly was a factor. But I also liked all the options to customize and the interior finish better on the Cimarron.
Having said that, I personally have heard nothing but good reviews regarding both companies.

My neighbor has a Cimarron, and I’ve been impressed by the dealer video tours I’ve seen online. They have lots of features like plastic bushings to reduce noise and grease fittings on the hinges. They were the first one I saw the sliding divider in, so one person can convert the 2-horse to a box stall by sliding it over and locking it in place against the wall.

Your Four Star experience does seem to be abnormal, I don’t think I’ve heard anyone with problems with one of those in a long time. EBY would be the gold standard but as you said, rarely on the market.

I just bought a Cimarron 2+2 (replacing an Adam 2+1) and will be picking it up from the dealer next week.

I originally wanted an Eby but when I called them in the spring of 2021 they told me they weren’t going to be making any more horse trailers until at least 2023. And although 4Star has always been considered the gold standard, I have several friends with 4Star who either aren’t happy with them or that haven’t impressed me when I saw them.

It took a while to get the plans for my Cimarron exactly right, but once that was done the build was pretty quick. I paid the deposit in mid-February and the trailer was delivered to the dealership the last week of June.

This is also a factor for me. I won’t use the 4Star dealer in town (I’d rather set my trailer on fire and push it off a cliff than let them touch it again) and the other one we’ve worked with, I was not a fan of their lead salesperson when we built out a new one. The Cimarron dealer that a friend has worked with seems much more responsive.

It may be abnormal (a water leak in the horse area that we have spent thousands to resolve that we can’t fix and the back ramp broke. The trailer is only 7 years old) but I’m not sure I want to take a $60k gamble on it not being a fluke. We looked at a slighty used one locally and it looked like it had a water issue too and I backed away fast.

I do love the trailer set up in general but I’m not sure they are worth the hype or the price after this.

We are looking at the 2+2 as well as the 2+1. What made you go with the 2+2? I’m curious to see what you think when you get yours. We also talked to Eby and didn’t get the impression they intended on ever making horse trailers again. The major perk with the 4Star is the resale value which is the only thing I am hesitant about wirh going with another brand. But I have to remind myself that may be in my head as I sold my Featherlite BP for more than I paid for it 5 years prior at almost 20 years old. And we hope this is a long term trailer, hence ordering it with everything I want.

Which dealer did you work with for your order?

I’ll definitely report back after I pick it up and use it for a bit. I ordered through Neysa Bryant at Trailer Country in VA.

I went with the 2+2 because I wanted a bigger front box than I have in my 2+1 so if I’m shipping two horses (which is my normal number) on a long trip I could make two good sized box stalls. But since I’ve sometimes shipped three and might have had occasion to ship four if I’d had the space, I figured getting the extra divider to make a 2+2 just made sense. I can either slide that divider over or remove it completely for most of the time, but if I ever needed to ship four it will be easy enough to set up for that.

And I agree with your thinking on resales being good regardless of brand. I sold my Shadow 2h gooseneck for $1k less than I paid after using it for 7 years. And I anticipate selling my 2017 Adam 2+1 for pretty close to what I paid as well.

I bought my Cimarron trailer from Transwest as well, and I love this trailer. It’s not a 2+1, but a 3-horse gooseneck. I can recommend the quality, and haven’t had any problems with it.

Re: Dealers, Sheri at Horse Pro in Gainesville GA sells Cimmaron and is legit, my neighbor and I have both bought from her (and I believe @Laurierace did as well.) If you know what you want, she can order and have it delivered to you.

We had a custom Cimarron trailer built a few years ago. Its a 52’ with 3 horse straight load in the back, 28’ of open space in front of the horses (for carriages, 4 wheelers and harness etc) and then a LQ in front of that.

We love our trailer and they were great to deal with. We actually went to Oklahoma when it was being built and it was quite the facility.

Our trailer was then shipped to Texas to have the LQ done and then back to Ohio to the dealership and we had it delivered to us at a horse show when we were in MA (we are from Ontario, Canada).

Well made trailer and we are thinking of purchasing a 2 +1 for them at some point in the future.

It’s amazing, but I would be terrified to pull and park that trailer! Impressive!

I have a 4Star 2+1 that leaks so badly that I have had to bail water out after a big storm. Count me in as someone disappointed with 4Star. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I have a 15 year old Cimarron that has aged like iron. I LOVE it and my next trailer will be another Cimarron. Sure, there have been a few parts go out that I have replaced over time (roof vents, tie rings, door tie-backs) but it’s structural integrity is superior. It does have an aluminum floor that I sprayed with Line-X truck bedliner after acid washing, and I do think that has helped the trailer age well as it is protected from urine. My only complaint is that it’s a 3 horse slant and not a 2+1

I was told by a Cimarron dealer that they are built very similarly to Hart trailers, and when I looked at them, they seemed very close to a Hart’s design.

While I have not owned a Cimarron, I have owned 2 Harts and they were built like tanks. I know the Cimarron has a honeycombed roof like the Hart’s and they are excellent in hot climates. You could feel an immediate difference in temperature just by walking inside the trailer.

I have towed it once and its not as bad as you would think!! Though it does take forever to turn. It just keeps going and going…

Hubby drives a fire truck and a 24’ trailer on a daily basis, so this is nothing to him…

We looked at a Hart as well. They were very nice trailers (they just couldn’t build one quite as custom as we have with Cimarron).

The temp difference with those roofs is quite amazing.

What model years are these leaking 4Stars? I’ve got a 2015 2+1 that I was lucky to find in stock somewhere for a good price and get delivered. I’m not a big fan of the local dealer. I had to get the caulking redone on the nose which caused a small leak but that was a normal repair for the age and having it parked in the sun. I like the potential customization of going reverse load in the back with the Quiet Ride system, and so if I ever decide to upgrade, I’d go custom this time with that and maybe a couple more feet in the box and roof insulation. But now I’m worried about the leaking issues.

The Cimarron is a very similar trailer in a lot of ways, and I’d still want some upgrades if ordering new these days, so if you like the local dealer, that might be benefit enough to changing brands.

reading this thread lead me to looking at the prices… and I thought horses were expensive.

then went to my insurance carrier and double the agreed value on our trailer to put it inline with replacement cost

You ain’t kidding about the prices. I paid right around three times as much for my new Cimarron 2+2 as I did five years ago for my Adam 2+1. Granted I did a few add-ons, but trailer prices have definitely skyrocketed.
