Well the film is on Youtube - In French only but if you can understand the language it has to be one of the best films I’ve seen in quite a while, beautifully fimed. The acting is grand - Daniel Auteuil is brilliant - and Guillaume Canet can really ride!!! Marina Hand (from le Sport de Filles) plays Durand’s wife and her acting is much much better in this film!!

I also saw Sapphire and Hickstead jump off against each other - some rounds are just so memorable. The calm, obedient, chestnut mare against the aggressive, quick, stallion…each being ridden by their perfect match for partners.

According to something I read, he was only 15.2. With a French Trotter sire.
A trotter granddam didn’t hurt Balou du Rouet, either.
French Trotters have incredible heart! and often they pass these good traits on to their offspring
Oh yes I remember Jappeloup (with a “e”), he and Pierre Durand were my my favorite pair, especially when they were “dueling” with Milton!
These were the good old days…
I haven’t seen the movie yet but have heard good things about it.

I saw all three of them at The National Horse Show, I’m not sure if it was in the same class or even the same year. I saw Big Ben at MGS for so many years it all blurs together. But they would have only shown in the International classes at the Garden.

I saw it again for the 2nd time last night. Just a beautiful movie. Love the part where Pierre’s groom tells him off and he turns things around with Jappeloup and begins to earn his trust

This has got to be one of the best horse movies I’ve ever seen!
BTW - for those without prime, check out if your local library has access to Hoopla. It’s a totally free online streaming service you can get with some library cards. That’s how I watched Jappeloup and finally got to see The Horse with the Flying Tail!
