Anyone remember Jappaloup? The little French horse that could - from the 80's

Thanks for the link. That was an interesting blast from the past. They were quite dismissive of Gail Greenough weren’t they? I had the impression that Holmfeld wasn’t a very good sport about losing to her, but it may just be my interpretation of his facial expressions, which I know can be mistaken.

I gasped out loud twice during that documentary. Once when they hooked the horse to that frightening hot walker, and once when Schockemohle’s helper tried to catch a rather feral young horse in a herd of other young horses, indoors. :flushed:

Sorry! I’m still relatively new to COTH and finding my way around comment formatting and norms!

But also, I think most of the other videos from the series on various disciplines are available on youtube too- I binged most of them a few months ago when someone posted the links elsewhere: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXVlmhxRMrCtUV5x1KCdGU4Cffxxfuxkh

The quality isn’t always great and there are moments in the eventing and polo episodes that are horrifying, but they’re all really interesting and pretty well done

I have looked for these videos for years. I thought they were long gone. My searches for The Horse in Sport on You Tube turned up nothing. You must have magical powers to be able to find them. Thank you!

When these first came out as VHS tapes, I must have watched the eventing ones dozens of times, as that is what I was doing back then. Then I loaned them to someone, and never saw them again. Same with my set of Miller’s equestrian trading cards, if anyone recalls those.

Thanks for mentioning this was available on Prime, y’all! Watching now, it’s actually some of the better horse footage in movies I’ve seen.

Loved the Horse in Sport back in the day. 4 amazing SJ pairs. Any one of them was worthy of winning.
