I have heard that it’s a pretty nice place to ride and was planning on joining the TROT ride there on June 30th (have a date conflict now). So I was wondering how hard it is to navigate the trails without someone showing you them? I have heard they are not marked or mapped. Also how buggy does it tend to be and is it an okay hot weather ride or best done when it’s cooler?
I’ve ridden there quite a bit. Yes, it is a bit hard to navigate around the first time. I suggest going on the TROT ride and paying ATTENTION the whole time. My first time I rode with a couple of friends on a different section of the reservoir with a leader. We then went on our own to the Deer Park Rd parking spot and I figured it out with a lot of backtracking and wrong turns, but I have a knack for trails.
It is almost all under trees, the bugs aren’t too bad, there are areas with creeks for horse water then longer stretches without any. Do not water them in the reservoir! At about 5-6 miles you will have to cross Rt 32 which is two lane and busy, on a curve so you have to be cautious and quick. Very good riding on an old fire road that is mostly dirt and pine needles, rolling terrain, some rocky stretches. It is an out and back trail. You can do 20-22 miles.
I like riding there a lot.

Occassionally the Mount Airy Saddle Pals rides there. We don’t have any rides there immediately coming up but you can monitor the page on Facebook (publically accessible, you do not need a Facebook account) for ride schedules.
Thank you for the info- I would love to do the TROT ride but I don’t think I can do that day  I may have to see if I can find someone local who wants to go out and show me around instead
I have ridden there, but personally I prefer Pretty Boy Resivoir up in Norhtern Baltimore Co in the Parkton area…nice trails, much less busy roads.
I will.ride with you there. We tried once before. I will be home from the beach in two weeks.

That’s right- we did try to set that a couple of years ago or so, didn’t we? That would be great! Shoot me a pm when you get home and have fun at the beach
