I have never ridden the trails there, but I spend a lot of time around Sproul State Forest, I fly fish Kettle Creek and other area creeks quite intensively a few months each year. All along Kettle there are horse farms and small breeding operations (one that jumps to mind that bred rangerbreds), its a very horsey area. In the winter, snowmobiling is popular on the trails. The mountains are steep and the scenery is just beautiful.
If nothing turns up here, I would suggest reaching out to some of the horse farm owners there and asking, or the Sproul state park officials. Kinney’s Country Store in Cross Fork might be able to share some names/numbers of folks there, as might Kettle Creek Adventures Resort. Both are very nice people and might be willing to help out.[/QUOTE]
Thanks Buck22, I made a mistake in my initial post by saying Sproul SF, I should have said Susquehannock SF. They come together there at the Potter County line. I’m familiar with most of the trails in Sproul (tho I’d love to hear about more of them) but not in Susquehannock. Mostly from Cross Forks and the intersection of Routes 44 and 144. Anything North of that line I’d love to hear about. I have visited the Susquehannock SF office to talk to the trails people, they kind of prefer we stay South of Cross Forks. You are not forbidden to ride above there, just discouraged to do so. I did not get a clear answer as to why.
I’ve not ridden Kettle Creek. We spent some time exploring that area on foot and by Jeep. Nice enough to visit, but so much of that horse trail is along the forestry roads. Our goal is to only ride where vehicles cannot go. There are better trails out there! That area is also well known for rattlesnakes, so be careful while fishing out there.
I would love to talk to any Horse Farm owners North of Cross Forks. Short of banging on doors, I’m not too sure how to find ones that trail ride. I’ll have to do some creative googling. I was just hoping to find one on here.
