Anyone seen any full seat schooling tights without silicone recently?

I just realized, after noticing the shabby state of my everyday riding attire, that I haven’t bought any breeches/tights in over 5 years.

And COVID has made me realize that I’m more interested in being comfortable than looking sharp at the moment.

So I’m on the hunt for full seat schooling tights or soft/comfortable (knit?) breeches (I’ve still got decent show and clinic attire that I’m mostly looking for cozy/easy schooling clothes that prioritize comfort over looks). But I can’t seem to find any at all that aren’t covered in silicone these days. Silicone grip just isn’t my cup of tea, unfortunately.

Does anyone know of brands that still make non-silicone comfy/stretchy schooling tights/breeches? Can’t believe they’ve become an endangered species in just a few short years! Thanks for any tips you may have.

You can buy active wear tights for very little money from op shops and cheap shops.

Yup. I have plenty of running tights I could wear to ride, and sometimes do on very hot days, but I don’t like the particular synthetic blend materials in athletic tights for riding in general, especially in colder weather.

I’m specifically looking for casual riding wear with non-silicone (e.g. faux suede) full seats.

ETA: I’ll sew my own faux suede full seat tights if I have to, but I don’t have time for that in the foreseeable future so I’m hoping someone knows where to buy some.

Do they have to be full seat? Horseware makes great tights.

I actually was looking for the same thing as I don’t really like silicone.

This one looks like it has a “chamisoft” full seat (faux suede).

Take a look at Irideon tights. They have fake suede rather than the silicone dots (I don’t like those either…)

Some of them are sold as ‘breeches’ but they’re still pull-on with elastic, they just may have front pockets.

(Oops, didn’t see that @sophie had posted about them already, the link summary didn’t appear when I read her post.)

I have these: Kerrits Flex Tight 3.0 - Full Seat

I really like them. I’m just “back in the game” after years away, so my breeches were all older and dated, so I have no idea if $99 is a bit pricey for schooling tights. I just went with something that looked comfortable and they are! I have a grey pair and a black pair.

FITS does - they are my favourite, but they’re really pricey. I had a hard time with the sizing of the Kerrits Flex Tights - I have (and love) their Ice-fil tights, which are silicone, but could NOT figure out a comfortable size in the Flex. I’m basically a human gumby, though, so sizing is always a bit weird for me!

Tropical rider makes great tights. Deerskin, lambskin, clarino, full, patch, extended patch. LOVE them!!

Yup ^^ Tropical Rider. Comfy, well fitting, last forever. Often on sale.

I wish they would make a proper wide waistband. Theirs cuts in a super unflattering way compared to “normal” activewear.

I hate the silicone too. Alas I fear it’s the wave of the future! Another vote for Tropical Riders

Most of the Stickyseat breeches have silicone dots or lines, but these do not (plus they all have nice wide waistbands!)

They’re not full seat either, unfortunately…

I usually only buy Pikeur full seat breeches …only ones who last… I know they are not cheap…

Irideon have a few to chose from; https://www.toklat.com/Products/Brand/Irideon/81/Womens_Tights

No, they are not the only ones that last. I have a couple pairs of FITS that have lasted more than 10 years.

Hey thanks, everyone! And sorry to leave this thread dangling – I’ve been slammed at work. I guess I checked a few of my favorite retailers and known comfort-oriented brands without any luck and then started to worry that non-silicone riding tights had gone the way of the dodo. I’m glad they can still be found here and there.

I still have some pikeur breeches that are in good shape but frankly they’re not as comfortable as the schlubby knit full seat tights I’ve been wearing most in pandemic times. I wear the cheapo fullseat tights every ride and never the pikeurs or other classier pants, so the crummy comfy stuff is finally wearing out (and the analogous products on the market from the brands I’m used to all seem to have been replaced with silicone). It’s funny, cause I splurged on nice breeches while on work trips to Europe back when I was a ramen-eating postdoc who really shouldn’t have spared that kind of money, but now that I can actually afford to buy riding clothes what I really want are the low-end, kinda ugly, comfy tights that I can comfortably slip into after a day of business-up-top, sweatpants-on-bottom Zoom meetings. Grass is always greener on the other side…

I suppose I’m in a niche that nobody would bother marketing to – my horse is aging and who knows if we’ll ever show again or even bother with clinics, so I’m starting to focus more on being comfortable and having fun at my home barn and don’t really care how nice my pants are. But I also hate silicone. The venn diagram of comfort-focused riders and traditionalists who like a good non-silicone fullseat does not seem to have much overlap. Cheers to the others who are in my little sliver!

It looks like Irideon has developed some new products since I last bought any of theirs (7-8 years ago). I didn’t love the cadence breeches (tights) I once had from them but will check out the new options. And I’d never have thought to look at Horseware for breeches (though my horse wears their products pretty much every day), but that looks promising too. I’ve also had some issues with Kerrits sizing, so I tend to avoid that brand unless I can try on in store (which isn’t happening any time soon, thanks to COVID and lack of a good LTS). I’ll also keep an eye out for Tropical Rider sales.

Thanks for all of the help everyone!

I am in the same niche LOL

FYI I just saw an ad from Smartpak : they have full seat non-silicone Piper breeches on sale for $35 but limited colors and sizes (it jumps from 22L to 32L). Too bad they don’t have my size because I like Piper breeches.

Saddlebums make tights w clarion full seats.
