Anyone tried Alpha2EQ for respiratory issues?

There’s very little threads on Alpha2EQ when I did a search, and I decided to make my own thread since the other thread pertains to joint injections (which the Alpha2EQ can be used for too).

Some may have seen my other thread (here) but I am curious if anyone else has tried this for horses with respiratory issues. Mine has been having bouts of heaves episodes as we’ve also recently determined she has EIPH.

My vet had mentioned it as an option earlier this year for my horse, but we ended up trying some other things first (not the success we wanted) and so now we’re doing a round of the Alphra2EQ in my mare’s FlexiNeb.

I’ve talked to quite a few other people (who use the same vet) that felt it really helped their horse, pertaining to barrel racing.

I’m scheduled to do 6 treatments, giving them every other day, and then about once a month thereafter or as needed. I did two kits with my mare’s blood draw so that I would have plenty to go around. It got me 12 1/2 doses (the last one wasn’t a full 3 cc).

I’m curious to see how she does in the coming days. The wildfire smoke was REALLY bad last week (air quality 151, wafts down from Canada) and I know that bothers her. I hate to say it but I can’t wait for winter to douse those fires and the smoke. It’s been an awful summer.

Interesting… no one?

I keep checking in hopes that someone will chime in because I too would love to know about anyone’s experience/s with it!

I mean, my vet is pretty awesome (and pretty sure she was one of the ones doing some studies on this earlier this year), but I would think there are other awesome vets doing some pioneer things out there.

Meanwhile, our air quality continues to be HORRIBLE around here. Hasn’t gone below 155 and was even nearly 180 last week, so I haven’t been able to exercise horses like I want to.

We had a nice, unseasonably cool break, and then back to the heat and hellish humidity so I’ve backed way off as well. Still able to hack out and ride a bit, but any sort of fitness work is off the table.

Still hoping for both of us that someone has feedback on Alpha2EQ!

I have no idea on the product you’re asking about, but I know that Mad Barn Spirulina did wonders for my horse that couldn’t be in the barn for more than a couple of minutes without coughing. The coughing stopped almost completely. Not to mention it’s very cheap!

I do already have my horse on a spirulina product, the MVP Airway EQ.

Wish I had seen this thread sooner. My horse was part of the initial rounds of studies.

The short answer is this protocol was game changing for my horse. Jezzabel has not needed inhaled bronchodilators or steroids since Aug 2022. She entered the study Oct 2022. After the initial “loading” phase, we did one treatment a month. Spring and summer aren’t tough asthma months for my horse so we went 6-8 wks between doses in warm weather. Now we are back to monthly and just did a draw to stock up the freezer for the year.

I’m happy to answer any questions. Again, getting access to this treatment was the best thing ever.
