Anyone try OneTouch Fly spray?

wondering if this stuff is any better than what is already on the market.

Well the active ingredient is geraniol, which is a component of citronella oil.

There was a long and informative thread on fly sprays a few summers back. It turns out there are two main categories of fly spray.

There are pyrethin based sprays which vary in % of active ingredient and the persistence of the carrying material.

There are botanticals or herbals including citronella and other things.

The general agreement was the pyrethin sprays did not perform as well as they claimed, but the botanicals did even less.

thanks for the update. i might give it a try.

Fun update, since this thread popped up while I was searching it: the owner is happily fundraising for the white supremacist teenager who just murdered some protesters.

@SarahandSam  Well, that is discouraging.

Hoping someone with less disturbing views comes up with a similar formula.

ETA: Pyranha has a Natural formula that has gerianol (1%)along with clove (.5%) & peppermint (.25%) - water-based

For now I think I’ll stick with Gordon’s - 10% permethrin concentrate - $15/qt @ TSC.
I mix @ 1.5X strength so that quart of concentrate makes 16qts of spray.

I have had the best results with Gordon’s Horse & Pony spray that you can either get in water or oil based formulas. I find better results with the oil based spray. I get a gallon for $39 and it actually works .

If anyone’s interested – here’s a complete profile of geraniol:

It’s a common ingredient in perfume and can be easily purchased online from perfumer supply sites. Price depends on plant and country of origin from which the geraniol is sourced. Easy enough to make your own version of One Touch – there are no magic ingredients in it – or some geraniol could be added to an existing fly spray.

My horse may be allergic to geraniol. After spraying his legs with a product that has geraniol as the main ingredient, his legs puffed way up in an alarming way. I had the vet out and she knew of another horse who reacted the same way to the product. You might want to test it on a small area before giving the horse a major spraying. (My horse is also allergic to Equispot.)

If you are looking for a botanical, I have excellent results with Out Smart made by smartpak. I believe it’s main ingredient is peppermint oil.

I’m very much enjoying the one made by Fly Predators. It works as well as anything, and smells great. I sure hope I don’t find out they are lunatics as well.

I just get the Pyranha Wipe N’ Spray in the yellow bottle. It seems to work the best. If it’s not on sale, I get the TSC knock-off, which seems to work just as well.
