Anyone use a ThinLine pad? What other pads to do you like?

Just wondering if anyone uses a ThinLine pad and what you think about it? If you have one, do you use the shims? Are they bulky?

If you don’t have one, what is your favorite pad? I have a Haf Pad and two Equipedic pads, but I prefer my plain old sheepskin pad. My horse is part-Saddlebred and has the typical wide-sprung ribs and good withers.

Thanks!!

I have a Specialized saddle and use with a thin “specialized pad.” I use the ultrathineline with it.

I made a minor change and used a HAF pad and my horse’s back was extremely sore for several weeks. I am not sure if it was not using the thinline or the change to the HAF.

I have a Christ wool pad too, and a skito. (I’ve tried them all) And I keep going back to the thinline with the thinpad. I have always taken the shims out of all of them.

I started using my Desoto saddle more and along with the thin specialized pad, thinking it was a saddle fit proble (made adjustments to the saddle also, but just wanted to test to see if it was the saddle)

If your saddle fits, I do not think it necessary to have a thick pad, it alters the fit of your saddle. At least it did in my horse and I am suffering (horse too) with a sore back that I am having difficulties resolving. I missed my last endurance ride and probably the upcoming one w/ his back.

Edited to add: One horse is a 1/2 arab/ saddlebred / dutch harness horse and the other a purebred polish arab.

I just got one this week to use with my Stubben saddle. I noticed my back did not hurt as usual. Interesting. Trying it out more this week.

I use my thinline w/ a AP square pad… I wish it were a tad bit longer ,but other that that I am very happy w/ it.

Our (meaning, our horse’s) chiropractor recommended the thinline not just for him, but for our backs as well. She said other riders that she has worked with have commented on how much it helped their own backs.

The thinline pads pop up on Tack of the Day every now and then. Someone mentioned Victory Canter had matched the price.

Thanks guys, I think I am going to go ahead and order one. Every horse has a weak link, and my horse’s is definitely his back.

I’ll update in a few weeks after some miles. Thanks!!!

I love my ThinLine!!! It really helps my back as well as my horse. They are well worth the money. I have used it for about a month now and my horses all seem happier. And it’s sooooo much lighter than my Impact gel Pad. I wonder if you can use the ThinLine over the Impact gel. I do like my Impact gel pad under my heavy roping saddle but for trail riding I keep try to use the thinnest pad I can.
I also have 2 Skito pads without the foam. They are nice because they fit under my round skirt trail saddle and they stay put. I bought both pads used without the foam and I might buy replacement foam one of these days and try it. Until then I ought a 1/2 in. felt liner pad and cut it to fit inside the pockets and it works pretty good.

I use the thicker plain Thinline pad, but just as a preventative (based on their reputation), not as a treatment for sore backs. My cheap Wintec fits both horses pretty well but not perfectly and I hoped the Thinline would make up the difference. So far, no sore backs - human or equine.

Now I’m thinking about a Dixie Midnight pad, based on comments on another thread, and wondering if that would decrease the effectiveness of the Thinline. Anyone used both? With or without a cotton pad between the Dixie Midnight and the Thinline?

I was wondering about that also. I got the thinline comfort contoured pad, and yesterday after several hours, it was soaked, with lots of hair on it. I think for some reason my new horse is shedding out all over, so I don’t think the pad caused it. He didn’t have any rub marks. I was thinking about adding the DM at some point.

I was wondering it the foam, even though it’s supposedly breathable, is hot under the saddle?? I ride in a sheepskin pad so I purchased the trifecta half-pad to put over the top of my sheepskin. Hopefully the sheepskin will dissipate the heat as effectively as usual.

Love, love love the thinline, for both my back and my horses… but even though they say you can use it against the horses back, I would not. I’d at least have a cotton pad, felt, sheepskin or something cooler.

I got a ThinLine halfpad for my daughter PC pony and they both seem to be doing better in just a week. It is sandwiched between a Collegiate Event saddle (wool flocked) and a Dover cotton AP pad. The pony is moving out better and my daughter is “sticking” better. Thanks for the advice GallopingGrape!

Thats why I like the thinline cotton contour pad, its the thinline stuff on top of a quilted cotton pad. You just put it in the wash.

So I noticed the two times I used this quilted contour pad, it rubbed the thinskinned horse on both sides near the girth. But I still like that my back didn’t hurt.

When I looked at him later, I could see that the binding really rubbed him and now he has little welts.

I am calling Thinline tomarrow. I may have to end up with the sheepskin endurance pad with the UltraThinline on it. Twice as expensive. UGG.

Sometimes we use the thinline pad alone, with no other pad. The chiropractor who referred us to thinline said that it is actually cooler.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy anything from Tack of the Day. They have shipped the wrong items/wrong sizes to me on 3 ocassions. They don’t have a phone number to contact them - only email, and they NEVER responded to a single email I sent them. Instead they preferred to just let me sit with the wrong merchandise - eh screw you - is their attitude apparently.

Never used a Thinline saddle pad, but I use their hoof pads all the time and they’re great.

I use a Toklat Woolback with Ultracell inserts and love it.

I am getting a CSI pad in October and I cannot wait. I have researched it for a couple of years and I really like the concept.

I still have a Thinline pad that I plan to use as well, for I love the shock absorption!

Good luck choosing…

Thanks

The best that go together.

Take that, you sweet thing!
