Anyone use horse farm management software?

Does anyone use horse farm management software to manage their barn business? If so, what do you use? Thanks!

Well, I don’t manage a farm with it, but I do use Rendaivu for my horses and it has some tools for farm management. I’ve been happy with the horse part and it’s free, so maybe check it out? Rendaivu.com

I use EquineMax and love it. You can do a free trial on it. You do have to buy it, but honestly the features it has and the fact that it can do print outs, and keep track of everything you need it is worth it.

I have used Horse Works Equivision, and I would not recommend it. Not easy to use and just truly didn’t do the job for me.

I use QuickBooks. Just regular accounting software and it works great, especially at tax time. Records that can’t be kept in QB are maintained in Excel. I have thought about creating a database for them, but that’s overkill for 22 horses.

I use HFM on a 100 head farm that does broodmares thru training. I think its fantastic for record keeping and breeding mares…

By HFM, do you mean the program from the Jockey Club Information Systems? I’ve heard good things about that management software.

Yes.

I tried the JC’s horse management software and found one problem that I couldn’t easily resolve (and so discontinued it after the free month) - it wouldn’t allow billing for training or board by the month. Only allowed daily training rates to be entered. I’ve gotten Quickbooks set up pretty much how I want - I can track expenses, income, etc. for the farm that way. Combine that with Rendaivu for tracking what horses are due for what in terms of health and I think we’ve got record-keeping pretty well under control.

We use it at work- it is very well set up for a TB race farm, but needs a little altering for a normal boarding/ training situation

Flexible

TJCIS offers an online Trainer Program and Farm Program. They also offer the Horse Farm Management System (HFMS) which is a PC based software. So some of these responses to the OP’s question could be referring to any of those three different programs.

The HFMS can track boarding and training by month or by day. It’s very easy to set-up.

Great looking product…WAY too expensive.

Hi,

You should look at Stable Secretary - www.stablesecretary.com . It tracks all of the health and service records for the horses in your stable, and also has an easy-to-use invoicing creation feature. You can customize what services (and prices) you offer, and store all of the contact information for people important to your business. It is highly customizable so that you can enter whatever feeds, meds, vaccines, etc you use in your stable. It will send you alerts for upcoming appointments (vets, dentists, farrier, coggins, etc), and will show you a list of what is coming up soon.

It’s available from any computer or tablet with an Internet connection, and also has a mobile app that works on the iPhone and the Android.

I designed it after years of experience as a client, groom, mucker, barn manager, office manager, assistant trainer, rider, and trainer operating her own business. I just felt like there had to be a better way to keep track of all of the stuff we need to know for our clients and our horses… It will continue to evolve based on feedback from users.

Visit www.stablesecretary.com for more details, or email sales@stablesecretary.com if you have questions.

I hope that was helpful! Good luck!
