Anyone use Silver Whinney's silver sox?

My guy get scratches around this time every year. I was wondering if anyone has tried theses. Did they help, did they stay up?

I bought two pairs and they did not work for me at all. They did not stay up and my horse had (the company theorizes) an allergic reaction to the silver in them, though I’d used products containing silver on him before. His legs swelled up so bad I thought he had cellulitis. I contacted the company with my concerns and wanted to return the unopened other pair for at least a partial refund and they refused. Just my experience, but I definitely wouldn’t get them for any other horse I had.

Ok well that answers that. They are too expensive to risk that and even more inflammation.

I have a pair of the largest size (WB/TB) but they were too small for my big boy (size 5 shoes). If you were interested in trying them I could ship them to you. Not sure what size your horse is. I was able to get them on my guy but it was a real bear to get them off and I knew the barn guys would never take them off and on so it wouldn’t work in my situation.

I would love that! Tell me how much for them and shipping.

I’ll send you a PM!

I used these for my gelding who got scratches during a couple of wet summers. I used them 24/7 in the paddock and found that they did fall down, especially if they got wet… I got some mesh fly boots and attached Velcro to the socks and to the mesh boots to keep the socks up. That worked (but was a pain and required a sewing machine). The mesh boots and socks also got grass seeds stuck in them. However they definitely helped with the scratches! While wearing the sock his legs (white hind legs) had normal, healthy pink skin as opposed to flaky, red, crusty or, at worst, weeping and swollen legs.

So, they are effective, but a right pain to manage if you’ve got a paddocked horse.
