Anyone using Cargill "Dehydrated Alfalfa Pellets with Rice Bran"?

My local (family owned) feed store has an interesting product by Cargill - Dehydrated Alfalfa Pellets with Rice Bran (the feed doesn’t have a fancy name or branding). I’ve been trying to find out more info on the pellets (calories per pound, % of rice bran/alfalfa, is the rice bran stabilized, etc.) and have a call into Cargill (they were not super helpful on the phone, but said they’d try to get me all the info they have via email).

Just curious if anyone was feeding this and if they had any additional info. I have no intention of feeding this to my senior (nearly 28 now) horse without more detailed info. But since I feed alfalfa pellets and sometimes add rice bran (in winter only), having a product with both sounds kinda neat.

manufacturer - Cargill
feed name - Dehydrated Alfalfa Pellets with Rice Bran
feed contents - alfalfa, rice bran (no other ingredients)
product code - 8423 by 1305

Find out who the Cargill bagged feed rep is for your area- your feed store should be able to give you the reps phone number- and e-mail- and call or e-mail them directly. That is your best bet!

Good suggestion @cutter99 . I have to go to the feed store tomorrow, so I will ask for that info.

That sounds like something I need. Please post if you find out more!

Will do @atr .

I’ve never heard back from Cargill directly. I did speak to the local Cargill rep Wednesday at length - she promised to email me more info about the feed (but haven’t gotten anything yet). But this is what I have learned so far:

  • the Rice Bran is stabilized
  • the pellets contain the alfalfa and the bran mixed together - there aren't separate bran pellets and separate alfalfa pellets

Well, finally heard back from the Cargill rep! The feed is 10% rice bran, 90% dehydrated Alfalfa. It’s a 50 pound bag. She’s going to email me some additional info.

OK, interesting. Not enough rice bran/alfalfa ratio for my purposes unfortunately.

If you get info please post name of this feed. Thank you
