Anyone wear full seat silicone breeches in the hunter show ring?

Maybe this is an unnecessary warning, but my saddle guy told me not to wear even the silicone knee patch breeches because they can be hard on the saddle. As so many people use them I have a feeling he was just being over-cautious.

I wouldn’t wear the Equilines in the hunter ring, if I still did hunters, but if I didn’t like my Pikeurs so much I would be happy to wear them in the jumper ring! They just look jumpery to me.

Yet kids still win at the top of the sport whilst wearing them. If you are looking at the triangle, then quite frankly you and the distracted judges are focusing on the wrong thing. A hard pill for some to swallow. I struggled with it at first as well. Then I realized I was being petty and fearing change. The breeches are actually quite nice. More like wearing modern athletic clothing than old school breeches. We seem to want this sport to be both ways. We want to argue that we are athletes, but we shame those who choose attire that is truly designed for an athlete. That black triangle is far less distracting than a Nike swoosh stripe would be!

I think it is entirely possible for a judge to find them distracting and dislike them and have it not effect anyone’s placing. I do not think the two are mutually inclusive. Ultimately a good ride is a good ride. I think that also speaks to removing the rule book restrictions on show coat colors when the Burgundy coats became so popular.

No dog in this fight, since I don’t really have a strong view about this brand either way. But it is certainly not necessary from an athletic performance perspective. It’s a branding choice made by the company to have a design feature that is very visible from far away so that everyone knows what kind of breeches you are wearing from across the ring. Even if the triangle shape affected the fit or function of the breeches, there is no reason why it needs to be dyed a different color than the rest of the pants.

Fearing change??? What change? Does that black triangle do something majikal that creates the change? They are breeches. Noticing something that is obvious is not the same as being focused on it nor does that majikal triangle prevent judges from properly evaluating a round.

Why must you always be so condescending to people on this forum when you don’t like what they have to say? I never stated Equiline breeches do something “majikal,” but I have to ask - have you ever put a pair of these on? They are great breeches! I sweat less in them that my old go-to TS breeches, so I don’t get sweat stains or have to buy special $30 panties to absorb the sweat as with other breeches, which leave a panty line that is way more annoying than a dreaded black triangle. They don’t bunch up at the knee as knee-patch breeches do and are significantly more comfortable if you are going to be in the tack all day. For me, they fit better over my hips and are significantly more comfortable. If you have never tried them then I’m not sure why you are being adamite about belittling me over my preference for them. Perhaps it just makes you feel better? If so, carry on.

I’m glad that you agree the triangle would not prevent a judge from properly evaluating a round, just as I would expect that the rather shiny diamond on the CO helmets (which initially annoyed people) don’t prevent a judge from appropriately evaluating a round.

I certainly have no dog in this fight (this brand of breeches is so far outside my budget that I had never heard of them). I do not know your history with Midge but in this thread I would say that Midge is not the one being condescending to people who don’t like what they are saying.

On the tangent topic of a noticeable tag - Clearly the manufacturer wants everyone to know who is wearing their product. There is no other reason to make a contrasting colored spot that shows on every pair. This has nothing to do with the modern fabrics or anything else.

I generally try match the tone of those I am responding to so I am more likely to be understood.

I second these! I’m a sticky seat fanatic because they also come in schooling versions that have pockets large enough to hold a cell phone!

Just to clarify, the Eq kids don’t wear the full seat Equiline breeches, right? I couldn’t care less what other people wear in the ring, but if I were doing eq, I would not wear them. In my view, at this price point, there are prettier, more comfortable breeches that I’d like to buy with much nicer fabric, namely Samshields. Those are butter!

Some of the equitation kids wear the breeches with the tag on the left thigh. I don’t know which specific version of that brand they wear.
