Anything good as/better than Equishure for hind gut issues?

I’ve been feeding my elder (31) Equishure for his hind gut issues, and it works very well. However we are suffering through a belt-tightening phase and Equishure is around $2 a day–not horrible if he were my only, but I have other horses who also like to eat.

Thanks for any suggestions.

There was a thread (or a post in a thread?) that talked about making your own equishure out of baking soda and … Crisco, maybe? Let me see if I can find it…

Try DAC CoolGut. It’s about $1/day, helps foregut and hindgut issues. I’ve noticed a big improvement on fresh off the track horses, utilize feed better and beautiful hair coat. Introduce it slowly, some horses object to the taste. One mare I had to grind up the pellets, mix with oil and syringe it down her throat for two weeks, but it was well worth it to see her bloom. She eats it fine with her soaked beet pulp since then.

T.H.E. Gastro Plus healed my gelding ulcers in 30 days!

Now this I doubt. It’s not purported to heal ulcers but to help prevent them.

For the OP, I used to use Equishure and it was great until my horse decided he didn’t want to eat it any more. I swapped to G.U.T. and he licks his bucket clean (stuff smells like vanilla/toasted marshmallow)! I closely monitor his manure (because when he starts the cow plops, I know something is amiss) and since starting this stuff over a year ago, he 98% of the time has lovely small, round, appropriately glistening green apples  I’ve been very happy with this product!

Not sure where you are located, but I used to buy Equishure from FarmVet. They would frequently have sales on it and also have some free shipping coupons that included heavy supplement buckets.

Yes, there is proof it heals. https://www.grazingbitperformancehorses.com/product-page/gastroplus
Take a look at the scoping pictures. I have proof also, from before and after scopes. You do your thing, I’ll do mine.

Thanks so much for all your suggestions. In my initial post, I mistakenly said I was paying appx $2 a day. It should have read $4. He gets two tubs daily.

I’ll try the G.U.T. first since he has a sweet tooth, & if it doesn’t work I’ll try the DAC. I don’t think he has ulcers. We don’t have FarmVet in my part of California.

I buy a copy of Equishure that my nutritionist mills at her business. It’s in Canada but I know they do ship some products to the States. It costs me about $111 CAD for product and expedited shipping and a bag lasts me 3 months at 2 scoops a day. No idea what shipping would cost to California but at current exchange rates you might be able to get a good deal. I’ve had a lot of success with it. Send me a message if you want business details.
