30y/o horse, anhidrosis, heat intolerant, lives in the mid Atlantic, it’s humid, etc. General reactive airway issues in high humidity. Exacerbated by being in a barn with dust particles, needs to be in a barn with dust particles when it’s 100 degrees in the shade so he can be under a fan. I’m confident I have the environment management piece of this as good as it’s getting.
I have him on Zyrtec and, new this year, Mad Barn’s NOCR, which is spirulina, jiaogulan, and milk thistle. For bad days (high temps, high humidity- like this past week’s heat dome) he responds well to 4ccs clenbuterol twice daily. Since he gets tolerant to that quickly, I try to keep that for the really bad days so that I have somewhere to adjust the dose up if I need to. He also has an albuterol inhaler for really, really bad days (which I’ve used 3 times in his life so far.)
I’m looking for something for the “just kinda having a rough day” days where he’s clearly triggered by something but not in enough distress to bust out the clenbuterol. I’ve used Omega-Alpha’s Respi-Free and Ramard’s Total Respiratory for this in the past. Respi-Free works pretty OK to clear the tubes. Total Respiratory works well but is $8 a dose.
Before I go buy more of either, is there anything else in the “herbal or non-rx adjunct” realm you’d recommend for this job to just kind of open up the tubes?
