APF and colic surgery

Has anyone ever used this to help jump start a horse’s appetite after surgery? The surgery went well but his appetite (which was never great) hadn’t returned.

Edited to add the surgeon is not familiar w it and is not opposed to it.

I have no experience with it for colic surgery, but just wanted to say I’m so sorry you went through that, I hope your boy is okay.
I’ve used APF for other things, I do think it’s great for high stress situations and if your surgeon OKs it, I don’t see why not.
Jingling for you both!

I haven’t used it in that situation, but I’d say give it a try! It helped my horse eat when he started on Prascend, which we know can turn horses off food. Note that my gelding didn’t like the APF either, but you can syringe it in if you need to.

Thank you both! He is a miracle…all the right people lined up at the right time and place to help him. He did really well but just stopped eating at the hospital so I asked to bring him home anyway. I think he was depressed there…
He started eating the minute we loaded him on the trailer.:heartpulse:. He needs to eat a little more than he is and I was toying w APF.
@Pico_Banana, I tried it. It doesn’t taste very good but that bad taste disapates really fast.
@beowulf, do either of you have a time frame in which it works?

What is APF?

People use it to deal with the “Pergolide vail”. I wondered if it would help in this case. I called the company today…a very nice veterinarian was really helpful. I’m trying it.

Same here - can’t help with the APF, but jingles for your guy

Also glad for you that you could bring him home - way back when, my first horse had colic surgery and I had to demand to hand walk her because she was so depressed and not eating. So glad he perked up right away!!

Thank you all for your jingles and good wishes. I truly believe God has His hand on my beloved pony; I’m so grateful to have him home.
@Demerara_Stables, I asked to bring him home as he just wasn’t going to eat there. They didn’t want to release him until he would eat and pass manure, which I understand. I bought ever Standlee product they have at TS to try to temp him…not happening. He’s eating fine here- just needs to eat more, if possible.
