If you are talking about the English tack, then I have barrel raced at gymkhanas with no western gear in sight!
My daughter used to barrel race her pony in English tack and KILLED IT! She won a high-point at an Open Show in the junior division because she won all of the speed classes on that little bugger. 
Our daughter also won high point in games with her English tack and with her little Arabian besides. The judge wasn’t going to let her saying she couldn’t possibly ride that way and she would be off in no time. Show committee ok’d it. He finally gave up and said she had to wear her English clothes also. She was glad to wear her breeches instead of jeans.
That’s the show jumping set in a barrel racing box… either an accident at the factory or someone put it in there just to be silly.
Not saying you can’t barrel race in English tack (heck you don’t even need a saddle to barrel race)

But it’s not TYPICAL or standard. And seems strange as such with a large toy company. To compete with the big dogs, you do need an appropriate barrel racing saddle.
Would be like if they had their jumping horse with a Western saddle.

Very possible.
Who knows, could be photoshopped with all the stuff that goes around on Facebook, and it never even existed in real life.

That bareback barrel racing video was interesting. I laughed when she started to starfish at the end and the horse almost ran out from under her! :lol:
