How do we even begin to process something so abhorrent, so tragic? As someone already said in the other thread, this juvenile needs to be tried as an adult and forever excluded from contact with the outside world, human or animal.
I wish I could use the adjectives that I want to, here on the forum, for this vile piece of excrement.
Those horses will have died in sheer terror; I think we can all imagine how those horses would have been reacting. The five survivors will have been so traumatised and I hope they continue to have the best care both physically and mentally.
And, beyond this atrocity, he killed a dog too? He is sub-human at best.

The owners must have been horrified to find them, some killed and some suffering. One of the articles said that a GFM has been set up to help out the owners with expenses.

I went in search for my dribble and there was one, but it’s been shut down after only raising a few hundred. However I found this FB post for making donations to a feed store for them:

Im sure with vet bills around $6000 the owner’s resources are being stretched so donations to the vet expenses and care of the surviving horses are appreciated.

Is there any connection between the juvenile and the owner? Were the horses in a pasture or stalls? Was this a drive by sort of thing? I wonder if the neighbors heard the gunshots? How did they know who did it?

I haven’t heard any details about a possible connection between the owner and the shooter. I also wondered how old the shooter is-not that it makes a difference for the poor horses.

It’s terrifying to anyone with horses, so knowing the hows and whys might help understand the risk out there. My fear is that there might be some sort of social media thing targeting horses. Kids stealing horses, shooting horses…. I hope these are just random incidents. Random means we can carry on. A social media craze means, ‘look out’.

Oh this has me so upset and mad beyond belief. Those poor horses. And poor dog. I can’t say what I truly want to say. I wish much bad karma with interest upon the shooter.

I haven’t seen any recent updates on the case. Maybe in the next few weeks more information will come out.
This case will take time. Dennis Lee Martin has a string of petty crimes if you look in the VA courts case look-up system. This is by far the worst thing he has been arrested for. Justice will come his way but it won’t be very soon given the slowness of the courts.
