AQHA Horseback Riding Program

Has anyone participated in this program? I think it’s something like 5,000 hours to complete it. As luck has it, I have three eligible AQHA mares that I am thinking about going for this year. Trying to see if anyone else has successfully participated or completed it!

Well, looks like no one is familiar with this program.

All I know is that you don’t really “complete” it, I don’t think, but get different awards as you accumulate hours and 5000 is a big one.
You do get to continue further after that, the way I have heard talk about it.

I expect you already knew that, I have only heard and read here and there stories of those that are in that program.

Maybe some of the posters that read during the week will know more and can help you.

I don’t know about the AQHA program, but I am active in the Morgan program, and it’s a lot of fun. Good incentive to get out and ride, even when you don’t really feel like it. I just hit my 1000 hours with the Morgan program, and 500 with the Lippitt Morgan program (two Morgans, one Lippitt) and have gotten all kinds of cool stuff.

I’m currently participating with my horse! We have racked up almost 100 hours so far. There are various levels with rewards at different intervals; so far I have gotten a patch and a Noble Outfitters gift certificate, and once we hit 100 hours I’ll get a baseball cap.

It is SUPER easy to log hours online - once you have entered a horse’s registration info you can select that horse from a drop-down, then you just enter the number of hours you rode on a specific date, and the location or trail where you rode. I usually do it on my phone right at the barn after my ride.

I’m also working on getting our ROM in dressage, but I can’t afford recognized shows very often so we only have 3.5 points so far.

I have a couple of questions… for this program does it have to be hours spent on the trail, or can it include hours spent just riding/schooling at home?

LuvMyDressageQH - question for you, you can do USDF shows to work towards your dressage ROM? I have always wondered how those with QHs that do show jumping, hunters, or dressage get their points and/or get qualified for the world show. Around here none of the AQHA shows offer anything but the flat classes.

Draftmare- groundwork counts also. I participate in the program and I rarely trailride.

And schooling/riding at home.

I participate as well! I just got my 500 hr award. A good friend/trainer is somewhere north of the 3000 (logged) hr mark and has gotten some really neat prizes over the years!
