AQHA HUS -- Where to find?

I have a friend who has been having a hard time finding a HUS quarter horse. I don’t really know her budget, but does anyone know any good online sources for AQHA horses? I’m sure she has hit the big online sources. Thanks.

Is her trainer not helping?
They know what is for sale and what is coming up for sale soon as clients and other trainer’s clients move up.
Those horses at least are proven and come with a history, not unknowns you have to hope all will turn ok.

Use her trainer if she wants to be competitive.

If she just wants a prospect, I know of several breeders groups on FB. Also, the Prospects online auction is coming up next month. https://usahorseauctions.com/ (But, AGAIN, if she’s looking for a prospect and doesn’t know where to find a horse in general - she needs to be using a trainer.)

Khloe Brown does a lot of marketing for AQHA/APHA/ApHC: https://dressedtosellequineadvertisement.weebly.com/

Lora Whittington has a bunch as well: http://www.whittingtonequine.com/

Thanks, guys. Yes, she has a trainer, but seems she cannot find anything local so she is looking further out on her own. And her trainer sends her the occasional ad, but I get the feeling her trainer is not going with her, etc. My friend goes on her own to test ride. I don’t know all the details, though. Last horse she showed me online was a 3 year old, but listed at 17.2 and her vet already is worried about xrays, so she is looking again. Thanks again.

Thanks.

Congress is a good place, although it’s too late this year. Where is she? Can she go to the world show next month?

We’re in TN. And where is the world show? I’m not a QH person, so I’m pretty ignorant of it. :nonchalance:

Congress is in Ohio and Worlds is at the State Fair Park in Oklahoma City November 7-23.

Best source to place an " ISO - In search of " query with her requirements, location and search area limits is the AQHA Hunt Seat Horses Facebook group page. This is a member group with easy and fast approval for posting, reading is open to anyone. That is where my new prospect was posted with a video, and I jumped on it to be first in line to try her. There also is an AQHA/APHA Over Fences Facebook group page, but not used as widely and member approval takes awhile.

Yes. Go spectate and talk to people in the barns. Even if the right horse isn’t there, the right people who could help you locate one will be. Plus you can see what basic type horse you need to be looking for and watch the classes to see what is considered perfection in the eyes of the judges. Schedule should be online.

Obviously she won’t be buying one of those but, IMO, it always helps to see what the top horses look and go like then try to tick as many of those boxes as your budget allows. As opposed to Internet advice and anecdotal tales of what can be successful and what’s hopeless. Helps to know from personal experience observing at the top levels.

And there is shopping…

If you are on the western edge of the state, it’s not that bad a drive. Airfares are lower this time of year if you avoid the weekend before Thanksgiving and the holiday week.

Also…think that region is going to yield more suitable prospects due to bigger and more competitive QH shows with a higher standard then those in a less competitive regions with fewer horses and shows. Your money goes further.

Too bad Congress just wrapped but Columbus probably isn’t any closer then OKC.

Thanks, all. I will pass along all the information listed here. I’m like a duck out of water with the show AQHA scene.

We’re hoping you will get a bit more familiar with AQHA hunters as the AQHA English Special Events will start in 2020. This will allow approved Quarter Horse classes (as an all-English Special Event) to be combined with an open Hunter Jumper show, to give Quarter Horses nicer places to show over fences, and recruit the Quarter Horses already showing at open shows, but not at AQHA shows. More info, including about judges, on Facebook - AQHA English Special Events page.

There’s a nice one for sale in my barn. PM me if you want info.
