AQHA pedigrees

Do you really have to join AQHA and then pay additional to look up QH pedigrees?

I guess I’ve been spoiled by the JC and equineline!

I’m still helping a friend shop for a lesson horse and she is considering one that is HYPP H/N. And now we are being more careful looking at pedigrees of other QHs. Any place have an Impressive family tree?

If you join AQHA, you are allotted so much per month to look up records. If you want to look up more than your allotted amount, then yes - you pay extra.

All breed Pedigree is a good resource. Even if a horse is not yet entered in the system - if you know the dam and sire, you can enter them in. It will at least give you a hint of they trace back to Impressive - and many have the HYPP status included.

Yes, you have to pay for a membership and $3 and up to look at pedigrees and also for any other you look up.

You could try www.allbreedpedigree.com first.

Yes, I’ve been relying on allbreedpedigree but have had several candidates recently that were not there.

If the horse is younger than 17, the HYPP status should be on the papers (if they are AQHA registered), and the seller should know this. Started with 1998 foals. I am looking at one right now that does have Impressive WAY back there, but he is N/N. This one isn’t on allbreedpedigree.com but his sire and dam sire are, so I could look up the pedigree there if needed (but the seller also gave me copies of the papers; the pedigree is on the front and then the HYPP status is on the back).

AllBreedPedigree is somewhat notorious for having incorrect or downright fake entries. THe “sim breeders” people it rather heavily… Between them and the simple fact that ANYBODY can go in and alter or edit any horse entry, well, it’s not high on my personal list of trusted sources.

That said - I still have my AQHA membership, and once in a while I will run a pedigree check for some reason - you get ten bucks of searches free each month, rarely do I use it all.

IF you have an account with equineline.com you can get QH pedigrees, race and show records there too. Yes, they do charge for the service, but only when you use it and the fee is nominal, to say the least. I think that actually equineline’s fees are same as AQHA - but you do not need to have an AQHA membership to access the service, just pay your bill when it shows up in the mail!
