In the beginning stages of looking at stallions for my mare. She’s a Rugged Lark, and I’m wondering if anyone has particular crosses they like for RL?
I don’t know what you are looking to produce, western or english. 2 awesome stallions I like are “Wait a Darn Minute” and “The Krymsum Kruiser (spelling)”, don’t know how they cross with your mare, as I am not into breeding.
There was a lovely Rugged Lark mare at one of the barns I was at growing up. She was so sweet, pretty, and a fancy hunter mover. What are you trying to improve on your mare? What is her damline?
My mare is a true go anywhere do anything type, doesn’t really fit in the only English or only western category. Dam side has a pretty good mix of QH and TB racers, pleasure and halter horses. Top Moon, Sonny Go Lucky, etc. She has done everything from dressage to ranch riding to playing with sorting cows. She’s only 15 hands and stocky but not on the forehand like many QH can be, and with much bigger gaits than you’d expect. I’d like to get something that is similar, don’t want something that’s too specialized for any one thing. I’m having a hard time finding a stud I think compliments her. A lot of them are either huge 17 hand appendix types or really squaty downhill and almost wp gaits.
Look at the immortal. He’s a son of invitation only, does the western all around and is still showing into his teens. He is now doing all the ranch classes but started as a western pleasure western riding trail horse. He has aired similiar horses, hunt seat and over fence horses and roping horses
I have one of his daughters and she is soooo good minded with a great build and big feet. She is 16.1hh but dam is tb. She is just massive. But moves so softly. TI himself is in he 15.2hh range.
Ooh, sandsarita, I like him! (Not necessarily in relation to OP, just a general observation )
