Arabians to Race at Pimlico on Preakness day

Arabian Darley Winners to compete in $75,000 UAE President’s Cup on Preakness Day

There were rumors for weeks about a BIG race, something even more impressive than the running of the UAE President’s Cup at Churchill Downs last June. What could possibly top an Arabian race at Churchill Downs? The answer … a race for Arabian horses on the same afternoon as the Preakness, the second jewel in Thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown!

The Arabian Jockey Club has just announced The President of the UAE Cup, a Grade 1 Stake for Arabians. The 1-1/16 mile race for 4-year-olds and up Open on the Preakness card at Pimlico race track on Saturday, May 19th, will feature a significant purse of $75,000 added. The President of the UAE race series is the original, premier racing series for Purebred Arabians throughout the world.

Awesome!!! About time Arabs got more attention. I always wondered how watching a stubby QH run in a straight line for 250 yards was more exciting than the Arabian in a real race (yes Arabs are slower, but the regular person wouldn’t even notice).

Wow, not sure how I feel about that! Guess I’ll find out in May.

Should be a lot of fun to watch  (I prefer the slower races anyway… more time to figure out what’s going on… some of the dang races… especially QH ones, are so quick… you need to replay it in slow motion!!)

ARABS RACING

They have had them regularly at Delaware Park.
Love the Q.H. races once in a while…but to me, the Arabs are so slow, no real speed from the gate, and no come-from behind runs. That’s just my opinion. I remember when they had a match race (years ago) at Turf Paradise between an Arab vs. a Tb going 2 miles.

The arabs are good for a chuckle though with their heads straight up in the air and their tails flagging behind them, I think it may be fun after a few black eyed susans.

Friend of mine used to ride them at Delaware. She hated them. Said you had to ride them every step of the way, they wore her out. If you stopped riding them, they stopped running. And their heads were right up in her face.
