I bought a pair of the lined ADT leathers somewhat by mistake – I didn’t realize until I received them how pricey they are. I’m currently using the Prestige lined leathers and I find that sometimes they twist or separate under my thigh which is uncomfortable and distracting. Will I be happier with the ADT ones? I don’t mind spending the extra $$ for a quality item, but I’m also not in dire need of new leathers . I would appreciate hearing reviews from folks who have experience with them. TIA!
I’m not familiar with ADT leathers but I never cared for their bridles, I always thought they were overpriced for the quality.
I highly recommend CWD lined leathers though, they never stretch at all in my experience, wore like iron, were thin enough to be easily adjustable from the saddle and very comfortable under the thigh, never had a problem with them twisting or separating. When I stopped riding I sold my saddle and leathers, they were 7 years old by then and in mint condition. I also liked the half hole feature and the 3/4" width, I don’t like wide leathers. They are quite pricey though, worth every penny IMO but not everyone is willing to spend that much for leathers.
I have a set, but have never tried the Prestige leathers to be able to compare them. For what it’s worth, I am happy with mine. They are thin enough that they are comfort able to ride in (I have had some in teh past that have been super thick and uncomfortable), and mine have held up well - no stretching, no fraying, no ripped stitching. I have no complaints
I don’t have the leathers, but love my ADT bridle and think the leather quality is fabulous (I’ve had it for 12 yeas and it looks great and is so soft). On the other hand, my CWD leathers need to be replaced after 4 years of use. Maybe that is typical, but for the price I had hoped not.
I don’t know about the leathers, but I’ve heard terrible things about ADT’s quality when it comes to bridles as of lately. Not sure if the same would apply to leathers. Supposedly, the older ADT stuff was much better than what is being sold now. I’ve heard reports of newer ADT bridles cracking, splitting, and snapping in spots when new or nearly new, which would concern me about any of their leather goods, since that’s a pretty big safety issue.
That’s a shame. I have several older Arc bridles that are just lovely. I was hoping the quality would still be the same. Maybe my leathers are older as well, as I’ve had no trouble with them at all.
Update:
I sent the ADT leathers back – too much money for what looked and felt to be questionable quality. Based on BAC’s comment, I decided to spend even more money and ordered the CWD leathers!
Be sure to let us know how you like the CWD!
I will!
Of course, the leathers went on sale for 25% off several days after I placed my order. So now I have 2 orders in and I’ll send back the first!
Isn’t that always the way? It happened with me this year when I bought two winter coats from LL Bean. With clothing you can usually just call and ask for the discounted price, I’m not sure if CWD would do that or not.
