Arc D'Triomphe runs today - 10am EST

Favorite is 3yo filly Enable w/ Franki Dettori/John Gosden. Idaho - favored in the Sword Dancer (but next to last) - Ulysses 4th in the BC Turf are all entered. Have just touched on the runners having just discovered this is on. 18 in all. Aiden O’Brien has 5.

Fascinating race this year. Top three in the betting are two 3yo fillies and a St Leger winner.

Enable is hot favourite at even money, you can get 10-1 or better on the rest of the field.

Just doesn’t look or feel the same at Chantilly. Can’t wait till it gets back to Longchamp.

wow.
Super filly.
damn, that was impressive.

Most impressive win. She was 3rd/4th until Dettori asked her to move at about 400m to go. She won by 2 1/2!

She was fantastic. I had bet against her of course - for Brametot - who seemed cut off by Idaho as he tried to gain place early on. Still don’t think that would have made a difference if he had been able to move up.

Hope she does return next year. Her trainer says no to the BC. Filly has done enough for this year. So agree.

She is something else! Great race, it’s wonderful to see so many horses running. I know that’s usually for there, but after watching several dirt races here with 3 to 4 horses it was a treat to see a “pounding herd”.

Her face is so delicate I would have put her as an Anglo Arab. What an amazing mare.

I’m an eventer who loves TBs and OTTBs so please straighten me out if I have my facts wrong. As I recall in last year’s Arc de Triomphe the first three were descendants of Sadlers Wells. And Enable is as well both through her sire and dam. Anyone wish to comment on the prevalence of his gene pool in Europe?

(PS: I have a SW granddaughter in my barn that I really adore.)

The first three in last year’s Arc were not just from the SW line, they were all sired by Galileo.
The first three in this year’s Arc are also from the SW line through Galileo, with Galileo being the grandsire of the 1st and 2nd and sire of the 3rd.
In fact 8 of the first 10 horses in this year’s Arc are from the SW line.
I imagine it’s the same for most recent runnings of the Arc.

Actually, the 2nd isn’t from the SW line line, he is by Sea The Stars, who is a half brother to Galileo. But different sire line.
Sorry about that.

All three of them have Shirley Heights as second damsire, which I think is interesting. And all three come from Female Family 4-m, which traces back to Maggie B.B. and her granddam Magnolia–who was out of a British mare named Myrtle imported in 1840 or so. For well over 100 years, 4-m was a purely American dam line. As a branch, it starts with Magnolia who was bred in Alabama by James Jackson and owned by Henry Clay/Ashland Stud.

Maggie B.B. was the dam of Iroquois, Jaconet, Panique and Red and Blue, all huge names in American TB history.
